Table topper and 3 place mats

I used some more of the strips I had cut for my baby quilt to make a table topper and place mats.

The table topper or center piece is 14 inches square – the strips range from 1.5 – 3 inches, notice I pieced some of the strips. This is just a basic log cabin that started with a 2.5 inch square.

For my place mats I  cut some 1.5 x 2.5 pieces and sewed them into 2 strips about 12 inches long.

I then added each strip to a piece of fabric that was 12 x 14 inches.

Everything is from my stash; when the grand-kids and I made pillows last week I had pulled out some old polyester batting for them and I decided to use more of it for the place-mats. I used a template to mark the design that I quilted in the center.

Finished size is 12 x 17 approximately

Did you happen to notice that I only made 3 place mats? Most of the time it is just my dad, Builder Bob and me so this works perfectly.
