Summer Tote Bag

Summer Tote BagI finished up a new tote bag in summer colors but it will soon be time for fall colors! Our weather was absolutely beautiful yesterday, no humidity and a breeze. I worked out in the yard in the morning and then in the afternoon I asked Builder Bob to take a couple pictures of me with my new tote.
Summer Tote BagI always enjoy trying out a new pattern for a tote bag and this just might be my favorite size. I used the McCall pattern M7171.
Summer Tote BagOf course I had to make a few changes……there wasn’t a pocket on the outside and I always want at least one of those.
Summer Tote BagThere weren’t any pockets on the inside so…..I added a couple. I also quilted the bag and also the lining.Summer Tote Bag
I normally don’t do separate sides but these turned out cute and the facing on the lining was neat.

Summer Tote BagThe pattern didn’t call for a zipper, instead you used magnetic clips as you can see in the photo.
Summer Tote BagThis is a great size to hold a couple books and even a project or two.
Summer Tote BagI forgot to mention that the fabric is a stripe print…..I think I bought both of the fabrics for a baby quilt….but I forgot that until after I had cut out the tote. I just straight stitched along the stripes to attach my batting.

  1. Love your bag!!! The colors are so cheerful and I really like all the pockets! Crazy to design a tote without pockets!!!

  2. In my opinion, you chose a perfect fabric for your tote! It is a tote that makes people stop and ask questions, because they want one for themselves! I was thinking about making a tote today while sewing HST together for a mystery quilt I am participating in. But said to myself, no I already have enough projects going on. But after seeing your fabulous tote, I do believe I will pull out my favorite tote bag pattern and make one tomorrow. Thank you for sharing and inspiring. Have a wonderful creative day!

  3. Fabulous bag! Even better is seeing you in the photos. Great job and one can never have too many bags. Creative Bag Bliss…

  4. Hi Connie! I love your new summer tote bag! All of the extras you added are great! Can you tell me what that plant is that you are standing next to?

  5. Beautiful colorful bag Connie. You really did a lot of work on the bag by doing all the quilting on each part of the bag. It looks great. I like the pocket on the outside that you added.

  6. Cute bag, Connie. Yes, almost time for one in fall colors. 🙂 I'm happy to say that your beautiful weather of yesterday arrived here this morning. So glad to be rid of that awful humidity … at least for now.

  7. LOVE the bag…. makes me want to make a bag, I really love my current bag but it's getting worn, it's called a MARGO bag, and I thought I had the pattern but don't and my neighbor doesn't either (we've traded patterns a few times) sigh, so I have to buy the pattern again I think.
