Star Sampler Block tutorial12 inch quilt block

Do you remember the Star Sampler blog hop I took part in last month at Inspired by Fabric? The blocks have been assembled into a beautiful quilt.   I really, really love the sashing around the blocks! It really pulls all the different blocks together.

My block was shown on the first day of the hop, do you remember which one it is? It is the one in the bottom row on the left.

Today I am sharing the Star Sampler Quilt block tutorial for this 12 inch quilt block. I hope you like it!tar sampler pieced block

I was asked to make up a 12 inch star block for a blog hop at Inspired By Fabric and here is what I came up with.

The beautiful fabrics used are Marblehead Venetian Glass by Ro Gregg for Fabri-Quilt. Fat quarters work perfectly for this.Quilt fabrics

Here is my star block and the cutting directions:

I like to stitch my HSTs (half square triangles) as shown. It is also a good idea to trim them and make sure they measure 2 1/2″ inch square after you have stitched them.

If you have the AccuQuilt GO!, this would be a great time to use their 2½” finished half square triangle die. I love this one!

I have also included information to help you cut your half square triangles. This is a sample of the way I write my quilt patterns to make it easy to understand how to make the pattern.

After I made my block I had enough fabric left over to make this neat pillow.

I used the last of this beautiful swirl for the back and put a zipper in as there wasn’t enough fabric for a folded back. I also had just enough of the teal print to make a binding for around the pillow. This was the first time I have done a pillow with binding and I really like it.
