The Snowdrift quilt from Fat Quarter Shop makes a cute baby quilt.

Snowdrift Quilt

The December Sew Sampler Box contained the pattern and the main fat quarters to make this quilt. The pattern was actually for a 48½ inch x 60½ inch quilt but I decided to leave off the borders and make it into a baby quilt at 36 inches x 49 inches.

The pattern isn’t available yet at Fat Quarter Shop unless you purchased the Sew Sampler box but hopefully it will become available soon. There is actually one block that is used to make the quilt block.

Four Sections of the Block

Each quilt block is made from four sections as shown below.

Four Sections of the Block

Here are four of the quilt blocks on my design wall, you can make two blocks out of each fat quarter. The fabrics are from the Rosemary Cottage collection by Camille Roskelley.

Design Wall

I am really enjoying my new design wall, I also picked out a beautiful floral flannel that has been aging in my stash for a while. I thought it would be perfect for this baby quilt.

Quilting on my Noltings Long Arm

It took me no time at all to freemotion quilt it on my Noltings long arm. This time I was careful and made sure the stitching on the back looked good before I did too much. I didn’t do that with my Twilight Triangles quilt and spent some time using my seam ripper.

Binding on the Quilt

There was only enough of the Rosemary Cottage fabric to make the blocks so I wasn’t sure what to do for the binding. I ended up just using the same white premium muslin that I had used as the background fabric. I always try and have a bolt of it on hand.

Closeup of Quilting & Backing

I think the floral flannel made the perfect backing for this quilt and I am anxious to wash this quilt to get that softer, crinkly look. I always use a color catcher when I wash a new quilt and I will put in in the dryer.

When I gift a quilt, especially a baby quilt I want it to be used and used. I also sewing my binding on by machine.

Rusty on the Quilt

Rusty is our little rescue dog and he is finally very comfortable with a camera pointing at him. Isn’t he a cutie!

Fancy Zips

I bought a pack of Fancy Zips and this was the first time I used one. You sew the lining to the fabric and when you add the zipper, you just sew on the top right along the edge. So easy!

Fancy Zipper Pouch

If zippers are something you don’t like to do, you will love using the Fancy Zippers from Missouri Star Quilt Company. I bought a pack of twelve 14 inch zippers that I will be using to make pouches out of my selvages from my fabrics.

I love having a quilt project that shows off the selvages of my fabrics. Do you cut yours off? I have a whole bunch of them to use for projects!

Another Photo of Rusty

I just had to show you another photo of Rusty! Most of the time when I take photos of him, his tongue is sticking out so I make sure to take plenty of photos.

I think this one is so cute!

  5. Hi, thanks so much for the patern. I would like to have the cutting instructions for each of the pieces. Otherwise I think I wont be able to do this beautiful quilt.
    Thank you.

  6. Rusty is very cute and very photogenic. I really like this new quilt. There is so much movement in that block! I think it’s something I would really like to make and I have a lot of fat quarters waiting to be used.
Today, I’ve been making heart blocks to be turned into potholders. I decided it would be fun to get ahead for once and make something fun for my friends for Galentine’s Day.

  7. Your quilt is beautiful and the backing is just stellar, I think it really made the quilt! I love seeing Rusty and always show his pictures to my little dog Linus. I am so glad he found a forever home and someone to take care of his cherry eye condition, he looks so very happy and well loved. God bless.

Another beautiful quilt with pretty backing.
I have a few metres of pink flannel fabric which would be perfect for backing when I make a couple of baby quilts.
Having Rusty pose with your quilts is so cute. I’ll have to try to get my friend’s puppy Daisy to pose for mine when they are finished.
Thanks for always coming up with such lovely ideas for quilts and other decorative items.

  14. Another beautiful quilt. I’m so glad you made this so I could see the blocks. I got this Sew Sampler box also, but the pattern looked difficult. However seeing your blocks shows how simple it is to do. I am busy paper-piecing at present so won’t get to this one presently.
Rusty’s so cute with his tongue out.
    Thank you, Connie.

  15. Loving the quilt especially how the backing fabric compliments it so well. The zippers are really pretty. The last picture of Rusty is one of the cutest ones ever!

  16. I love the snowdrift quilt Connie. The colours look so colourful and fresh. Just what we need with this gloomy weather. Rusty looks so well and happy. Quite the experienced model now and looks so different from when you first gave him a loving home. Best wishes 😊

  17. What a beautiful quilt and very clever bag. Interesting idea with the zipper. I would have never thought of it. Big hugs to Rusty. He’s the perfect model.
