One Charm Pack Quilt

Do you have some charm packs in your stash that you are wondering what to do with them? How about making a one charm pack quilt!
One Charm Pack Quilt
This fun baby quilt was made with just one 5-inch charm pack and some yardage for the border and binding.
31 x 35 Quilt Size
The finished size of this quilt is 31″ x 35″ and made with 30 blocks.
Scrappy Baby Quilt
Here is the first scrappy baby quilt that I made using batik scraps from my stash. There is also a free downloadable PDF. Everyone really liked it and I thought it would be fun to show what could be made with just one charm pack instead.

This charm pack has been in my stash for a long time. It is Moda Block Party by Sandy Gervais with lots of beautiful, bold colors and prints.

Cutting Up the Charm Pack
I picked 15 charm squares to leave as 5-inch squares and then cut up the rest of the squares into the following pieces – (go to my Scrappy Baby Quilt tutorial for more info).
UPDATE: I made a mistake saying to cut all the pieces from one 5″ square. That is what happens to me when I’m in a hurry to post. I’m so sorry and thankfully someone caught it right away.
Cut the following pieces to make a pieced block: You will make 15 pieced blocks so I would cut the 2½’ x 5″ pieces first and then cut 2″ x 3″ rectangles from the rest of your blocks.
- You can cut (3) 2-inch x 3-inch rectangles from a square
- You can cut (1) 2½-inch x 5-inch rectangle and (1) 2-inch x 3″ rectangle from a square

Quilt Blocks
I then arranged the blocks on my design wall making 6 rows of 5 blocks.
Scrappy Baby Quilt Rows
It looks like I may a switched some of the blocks as I was sewing.
Add Border
The quilt would be too small as it was so I cut 5-inch strips of a teal that matched pretty good. I love my stash!
1 yard of fabric will take care of the border and binding.
Neutrogena Hand Cream
My secret weapon for hand quilting is to put just a little Neutrogena hand cream on my finger tips before I start free-motion quilting. This really helps me grip the fabric. I’ve been doing this for years.
Cherry Tomato Plant
I can’t believe how big our Cherry tomato plant is and every day I am getting a large bowl of them. We will definitely plant this next year!
Perigoi and Roasted Cherry Tomatoes
I roasted a pan of the cherry tomatoes with olive oil, garlic and balsamic vinegar. They were delicious and we then put them on top of the Perigoi which were stuffed with potatoes. First time eating them and they were so good!

Great idea for 1 charm pack. Sometimes we buy just one because it’s “pretty”. So nice to have something to make with it.
We had several tomato plants that grew 6 ft tall and had ZERO tomatoes. I fertilized, watered, etc., but alas no tomatoes. I called them the Jack in the Beanstalk plants!
I agree, charm packs are such a great way to see a whole fabric collection. Sorry about your tomatoes, come and get some of ours!

I love this quilt I think this will get me started again. My husband passed a year ago and then I kept care of him for 3 years before. 2 of the years were covid so I haven’t had my machine on for all that time. I always read your posts and today you must have been talking to me. It will take a bit of doing my kids moved me downstairs so I have to fine all of my things. Thanks for always being there for us.
I am confused. How do you cut three 2×3″ rectangles and one 2.5 x 5 rectangle from one five inch square?

I like that 1 charm pack quilt. I have several charm packs we bought a long time ago, but they are mostly dark, I have a few light ones. The dark ones I don’t know what to use them for, some have 2 or 3 charm packs.
