Monday Happenings 20 In My Studio

I can’t believe it has been a month since I shared a Monday post. I have been working on some quilt projects but I had lost my quilting mojo. Thankfully I’ve got it back.
Monday Happenings 20 In My Studio
Okay, let’s take a look at what has been going on here.
Kaffe Fassett Quilt
I am also working on another fast and easy quilt. Missouri Star Quilt Company sent me two 5-inch charm packs of Kaffe Fasset fabrics. One is called Royal and the other is called Tidal and they blend together perfectly.
I made economy blocks which are sometimes called square in a square. They are always fun to make and I’ll have a tutorial up shortly.
Getting Ready to Quilt the Kaffe Fassett Quilt
I am making a baby quilt and quilting it on my vintage 15-91 Singer. When it is a small quilt I find it more enjoyable to quilt it this way instead of on my longarm.
Notice the backing? That is the MSQ fabric that I used for the backing of my Quilt Town Stacks quilt.
Tula Pink Full Moon Forest
Here is another fun quilt project I’m working on. The fabrics in the Tula Pink Full Moon Forest collection are so neat! I received the 10-inch squares from Missouri Star Quilt Company and I’m going to hurry and get something made that I’ll share soon.
Strippy Spools QAL
It is week 4 of the Fat Quarter Shop Strippy Spools quilt along and I have 6 cute quilt blocks to share with you. There are actually only 2 different blocks to make for this quilt. I am really enjoying the colors in the fabrics. There is still time to join this QAL.
I am using the Strippy Spools quilt pattern from Fat Quarter Shop and the Berry Market Rolie Polie by Beverly McCullough and also some of her matching fabrics.
Puzzle Table
Okay, I have joined the puzzle crowd! My grandson keeps buying me puzzles and I didn’t have a good place to do them then last week my friend was here for a couple of days and she showed me the puzzle table her husband bought for puzzle making. I had finally finished a puzzle (took me several weeks) and sent it home with her. Her husband finished it in 4 hours!
Of course I had to order one and thankfully I have Builder Bob to put it together for me. It tilts, has 6 drawers for puzzle pieces, a cover and wheels so you can move it around. Do you like to do puzzles?
Here is the puzzle table I bought – All4JIG Puzzle Table
I put it next to the couch so Rusty can sit with me. He can’t figure out what I’m doing.
Duck
We still have the pair of mallard ducks visiting us every day. Here is the female sitting right outside my office window watching me. I really need to move that mulch to the backyard.
Here she is again, sitting on top of our wooden eagle. What a cutie!
Graduation Time
My oldest granddaughter graduated from high school and last weekend was the graduation ceremony in Ames. I am so proud of her!
Tomatoes and Brussel Sprouts
Our tomatoes and brussel sprouts are really growing! I took this photo today and below is the photo from a month ago. Our weather has been a little crazy, this morning it was 60 degrees and is supposed to only reach 72 degrees. Later this week it will be hot again.
Card Making
Okay, part of the reason I had lost my quilting mojo was because I’ve been having so much fun making cards with my daughter and grandkids. I think this is the first time we have ever had fun working on the same hobby. We laugh and of course go shopping!
I ended up buying two more of the bamboo shelves as they work great for holding bins of my fat quarters and also are great for my cardmaking stuff. With my big table and desks, we can all easily work in my studio.
Here are a couple of cards I am working on that make me think of quilting.

WOW! You are always so busy! I really like the fabric in the square in a square blocks you have done. How do you find time to do so many different things. You are quite amazing. Love reading your blog!
I love the Kaffee Fassett patterns. Your garden looks fabulous. I am very impressed. I do puzzles too, but the crossword variety not the ones where all the pieces look the same. I would be pulling my hair out. I am going to Connecticut for a couple of weeks to visit my sister. I have worked on several quilts but now everything is on the back burner. Since my husband passed away in January, I’ve had a hard time trying to make a plan. I’m just catching up on things that have been on the drawing board. My sister and I are going to make some pillowcases with Christmas fabric. She wants to learn how and that will be too less that I have to make for Christmas. We’re hot here in MEMPHIS also in the 80s. Very humid and it looks like more rain coming. Take care of yourself, Connie. I love seeing your blogs. Love love Ellen in Memphis.
Hi Connie,
The cards are lovely! Could you share directions on how to make them or post a link?
Thank you!
Pretty granddaughter, Connie!
Give sweet Rusty a rub for me!
I love the Kaffe blocks and quilt. The fabrics you are using for your spools are fabulous. That’s going to be such a pretty quilt. I don’t dare set up a puzzle as I can’t leave it alone until I’m finished with it. They are more addicting than quilting. Your cards are beautiful and very quilty looking. It’s nice to have your daughter share the craft with you. Congratulations to all on your granddaughter’s graduation. So fun! We were back in Iowa last week for the heat, but I thought it felt great. We drove through lots of rain and snow on our way home so not surprised you had a big cool down. The crops looked great and your garden reflects what we saw.
Thanks Mary and I bet you had a nice visit in Iowa, wouldn’t it be fun to meet up once? I love the cooler weather and puzzles can be addicting I agree.
You’ve been very busy, Connie, but you always are, so I’m not surprised. That puzzle table is nice, but I don’t have another square inch to put anything, I did buy a nice puzzle board last year, but it folds flat and I can hide it behind the sofa. I just put it on top of my dining table when I use it. It does provide a nice surface for puzzles. Your ducks are so cute. I saw a pair on our loading dock a few weeks ago and, as it happened, we had duck on the menu that week. Haven’t seen them since. Hmmmm!? LOL, I’m not worried about them.
Hi Pat, oh my to have duck on the menu when they disappeared! Sometimes ours will disappear for a day or two. The female laid eggs over at our neighbors house so she comes over here for a drink and food. Your puzzle board would work great but we usually eat at our table most meals. Thankfully I have room.
Love those Kaffe charm packs. They really do go well together, Connie. I’m glad you are having fun with your cardmaking. And yes, I do love puzzles, but haven’t done one in years. My mom always kept a puzzle going. She would have loved that puzzle table. It is awesome and perfect for holding all the parts!! Mama would put hers on the dining room table on a big piece of cardboard and move it when she had to use the table. They mostly ate at the kitchen table though so as not to disturb the puzzle. What does Rusty think of the ducks?
Rusty…..if we go out front he tries to look the other way and the ducks aren’t scared of him. He is such a chicken, when he goes out at night….he waits for me to come with him.
I have some Kaffe fabric that I bought by the yard . You have inspired me to finally use them . I think I will ” fussy cut” the flowered fabric for center and then use a solid color and then some Kaffe stripe . We have a great quilt shop in Golden Colorado , not far from my home & beautiful fabric. I bought the Kaffe there , had no idea what to do with it BUT it just jumped into my basket 😉 . As soon ad I get able to walk, use my foot peddle and sew again , I will start . I’m laid up with broken foot 🙁 Love your site
You will enjoy working with his beautiful fabrics! Sorry about your foot and hope you heal quickly. Here is another quilt I made with Kaffe fabrics.

Your economy blocks are great. Love the fabric. I also make cards. Do you have a die cut for those? Looks like too much math if I had to cut them without one! Hope you have a bountiful harvest. Looking good so far.
Thanks Niki, you’ll have fun working with these beautiful fabrics.
Your cards are so pretty! The 2 Kaffe charm packs are perfect for those economy blocks. Congratulations to your granddaughter on her graduation!
Thanks Sara
