Monday Happenings 14 In My Studio
I have been making a few small quilts using kits I received in some of the subscription boxes I have been getting. This quilt is called Love Struck and was part of my last Creative Notions box. I had a piece of flannel in my stash that worked perfectly for the back. I can’t wait to show this finished.
Rusty
Someone mentioned that I haven’t shown any photos of Rusty lately so here he is. I have several beds for him but most of the time he just lies on the tile floor in the entry way.
Washing Old Fabrics
Once again I am washing some of my old, old fabrics. See the quilt on my design wall? That is made with the Love Blooms fabrics that I received in the Fat Quarter Cupid box.
I don’t wash new fabrics before I use them.
I decided I wanted to use up some of my older red fabrics for the back and pulled out all my red fabrics that weren’t batiks. I found the perfect backing for 2 quilts I’m going to finish.
Then I decided it was time to wash all of the fabrics. Some of these fabrics are 20 years old but I still like them. I’ll get them all folded today and then maybe I’ll work on my pink fabrics.
Fun With Family
My sister Michelle came to visit a couple of weeks ago and we had a lot of fun crafting, shopping, go out to eat and just spending time together. She is on the left and my daughter is on the right.
Peachy Moda Scrap Bag Quilt
I finished up this quilt using a Moda Scrap Bag from Green Fairy Quilts. I also ordered 2 more as I love surprises! Learn more about how I made this quilt!
Unboxings
I did a post and a video showing the Bella Rose unboxing, this is the first time I have received this. There were some interesting things in it!
The February Ginger Quilter Box had an assortment of pastel peach fabrics and other things in it. Checkout my blog post about it.

I love seeing your posts. Rusty looks very content and at home. You’ve done a great job wit him. Thanks for all you do for us, Hugs, Lois
Rusty looks so good in this picture. The color of his coat still amazes me every time I see a picture of him.
Rusty looks like the best one in a box of chocolates. Gotta ❤️ Rusty.
Spring is just around the corner now. The quilt on the longarm looks so pretty and your peach one turned out so well without the darker fabrics. That’s quite a collection of reds! Nice to see Rusty again too.
Thanks Mary, it looked like a lot of fabric but it is all folded and most of it is fat quarters. Now to start using them!
Connie,
Did you have any problems with Love Structure kit? The heart felt mini quilt had a lot of cutting measurement mistakes.
I think the pattern was pretty good Suzanne, I am learning to really read through the patterns that come with the boxes. I had made cutting errors (my fault) before and there is no extra fabric included.
I like to make use of my older fabric too. Did you have any problem with red fabric bleeding? How do you deal with that problem? Thanks
Awww, sweet pic of Rusty!! I LOVE your peach moda scrap bag quilt, Connie. Wow, you have a lot of variety with all those boxes you receive! Your Love Struck quilt is really cute too! Family fun time is awesome. Have a great week!
Thanks Brenda! My favorite thing to do is just start “playing” and having no idea what I’m going to make. I always think of weekends as “fun time”
rusty is looking very healthy and happy. Love that you use old fabrics. Some of mine are even older than 20 but still very vibrant and useful. I think I’ve gotten them all out of my attic. Thanks for your inspiration. Vivian nolen
Thanks Vivian and like you….some of my fabrics are older but almost all are ones I love!
The peachy fabrics are really pretty! Glad you had a good weekend with family.
Thanks Sara!
What a lovely picture of Rusty. He is posing so nicely.
Thanks Sheryl
Hi Connie,
I have a question about your prewashed fabrics. Do you use them as a backing for quilts that are made with new, unwashed fabrics? Does it cause any problems later when the finished quilt gets washed?
Your quilts are lovely!
Hi Dee, I don’t think it causes any problems to use the washed fabrics. I like a crinkled look to my quilts after they are washed. I also wash finished quilts in cold water.
