Mini Broken Herringbone Mug Rug

Yesterday I pulled out some red batiks…..notice the top one….just bought that on our Minnesota trip….and played with the Broken Herringbone block. If you missed my post you can read it here and also find out how to make the block.
This block is a “little” smaller than the original block and a “little” bit longer. What do you think of the back!
A tiny bit of quilting and a flanged binding finished off this little mug rug which finishes at 9 x 12.
Before I get you confused about the Quilt Along that is going on, I’ll show you my red batik block for it. This block is 12 1/2 inches.
I’m making extra blocks….I have no idea why yet…but I know I’ll come up with something. I’m going to make blocks in rainbow colors.
I finished putting the binding on the table runner that I made with 2 blocks. When I showed this quilted the other day many people wondered if the Quilt Along was a Quilt As You Go (QAYG). No it isn’t, although if you were making each block with a sashing it could easily be a QAYG.
Two different projects….two different sizes. Oh, in case you are wondering I used 3/4 inch and 1 1/4 inch strips of fabric for the red mug rug.

Your mug rug is stunning. How wonderful it is to have something so lovely to enjoy your cuppa. Your blocks are wonderful too. I agree, it would be an easy quilt as you go block.
I really like that block. Too many ideas not enough time.
I'm not really a fan of batiks, but I think they look great here as part of the herringbone block.
Beautiful! That two block table runner is just wonderful.
Love your red batik mug rug. Very striking.
Love your herringbone projects amazing. Thanks for sharing. Stopping by from Quilt Story. Marie (mlismore@optusnet.com.au)
I love your little red mat, it looks so smart with the tin!
What a great block and I love the mini mug rug. Good job.
lol….I grew up as a Campbell and love Tomato Soup. So your block is perfect! Just beautiful really. Love the color choices for this block.
I wish I could be as prolific as you! These are some cool blocks, and I love the Campbell's tin!
You are sew creative, Connie! Once you get ahold of a new idea, there is no stopping you! It's great to see your experiments on the broken herringbone. Both of your table runners are sew sweet!
Looks great! I was just going to try and make a mini one tonight but I was debating on the dimensions
Fabulous the reds are gorgeous as well.
Love the mug rug, the red batiks work so well in this pattern. Having seen your post the other day I went off and found the QAL. the test block worked well.
You're really churning them out aren't you! I've only made my test block so far and not sure I'll get any more done for a while as I am tied up with hospital visits for two family members for the next couple of weeks. My fingers are getting twitchy though. Love your little table runner!
I have that recipe tin too!
Conny, what a lovely fabric, stunning red! Wow! I love the broken herringbone pattern! Thanks for sharing the possibilities!
I want to give this a try. Your bright colors make such a striking statement.
This is an excellent block. It really packs a visual punch, love it!
Have a great day.
Always, Queenie
Wow, Connie what great projects. I love this design. The red and white really caught my eye. Great job!!
Oh…I love the red too!!! Very sweet.
Love your herringbone!
I love your bright colors in your Broken Herringbone blocks. These are on my "to do" list. Beautiful!
they look great!
Love your broken herringbone blocks. So tempting to try one, but I know they would be addictive (right?), so I'd better wait until I get more of my UFO's finished. I love your bright colors in everyone one of your mini quilts.
I love these! I just found the tutorial last night, and these are so striking. I love what you have done with them.
Looking good! I'll be anxious to get back from my trip so I can start working on mine. The mug rug is terrific.
WOW — love that mug rug with it's tiny parts.
Me too. What a strong geometric look. I want a mug rug or three two! Time is everything though… I'm finishing rather than starting… or at least that's my mantra!
I love your broken herringbone blocks… they really show off beautiful batiks well!
