My big project this week was quilting my UFO that was picked for January. Are you working on one?
It has been quite a while since I free-motion quilted a quilt this big on my old Singer. It was a work out on my arms but I got it done. Now to get the binding on and get it finished. It is almost the end of the month!

Thread Giveaway
You’ll want to visit my Youtube channel as I have another giveaway from Missouri Star Quilt Company. You could win a set of 5 spools of thread!

Red Scraps
I’ve been rearranging my fabrics and found this pile of red and pink batik scraps. These are great to make string blocks with.

String Blocks
There were a few strips that were 2 1/2-inches wide so I used them as the first strip. I like to make string blocks with a paper backing. I have old phone books and also a stack of newsprint paper which I am using today.
Do you see Rusty? He seems to enjoy our cold weather.

I like to give each string a good press before adding another one.
In one of my Advent boxes this year, I received this square pressing block and I really like the big size, I never would have thought of using something that big. I found a Quilter’s Clapper set that is similar and may have to add them to my collection.

8 At A Time
I really like making Half Square Triangles and there are so many ways to make them. If I am making a lot of one size I will usually use my Accuquilt Go and dies.
When I want a few that are the same I will use the 8 at a time method. I used two 10-inch squares. The black lines are the stitching lines and the red lines are the cutting lines. I’ll share the quilt blocks I made in my next post and give a more detailed tutorial in case you have never made HSTs this way.

Cardmaking Calendars
I know some of you also like cardmaking and I wanted to share these cute calendars I made. I’ll be sharing these with my Wednesday morning coffee friends.
I think I’ll make a few extra to add to my giveaways.

Connie, I’m making Simple Pinwheel Quilt Table Runner. I have the blocks all cut but what goes around them? I didn’t see anything in the directions.
Hi, the 3 blocks are joined together, please see the photos at the end.

Good morning from Niagara Falls, Ontario, CA.
I like the quilt you re finishing up, so pretty. You inspired me to get at some of my UFOs. I decided to do a few of them before I begin a new project.
Thanks for that push I needed.
Happy New Year
Doreen
I don’t have enough quilting time to finish 12 UFO’s this year but right now I’m working on one from 2017, River Rock. I love the batiks in this quilt and have come back to it from time to time. I’m on block 8 out of 9 now so I see hope for finishing it this winter if temps stay so nasty (in WI). I also just finished the quilt top for a baby quilt for my soon to arrive great nephew. I will be working on putting that together next week, need to buy backing (I’m thinking a flannel).
I always learn something from you and your links. I had never heard of a clapper so had to look that one up. My husband said he will make me one.
Just work on what you can Deb. Have your husband make the clapper out of hardwood. That is supposed to work better.
Always enjoy your posts and watching the new patterns. I’m on my way to the quilt shop now – got a request from family to make quilts for their “getaway” cabin in the woods! Thanks for all the good advise and photos.
Thanks Joan and have fun! Getting a request from family for a quilt is wonderful. I can’t wait to see what you make.
