It's All Up To You Challenge

Twilight Triangles Quilt

Rusty approves this beautiful quilt as you will see later when I try and get a photo of the quilt on the bed! This is perfect as a lap quilt for your favorite chair.

Twilight Batik Fabric Leftovers

I decided to use my leftover Twilight batiks for my December Island Batik Ambassador project.

Cutting out triangles

Twilight Triangles Quilt

I used the Lori Holt Tall Triangle Ruler but this type of quilt can be made with any triangle ruler. The hard thing with this type of a shape is matching the sides. I wasn’t perfect but once the quilt is made it looks great.

If you have an AccuQuilt GO cutter, the GO! Equilateral Triangle 4 1/2″ die is great to use because it is so easy to match the sides. I have this die and now I’m thinking I should use it.

What Size Of Quilt?

I decided to use all of my fabrics and that is how I decided how big the quilt would be. My quilt ended up being 54 x 64 which is a great lap size quilt. I also used Aurifil 50wt Sand thread for my piecing.

Notice the ends of the rows? You just square up the sides when finished, I actually waited until it was quilted.

Connecting the rows of the quilt

2 Mistakes

I used my longarm to quilt it and used Hobbs batting. I made two mistakes!

First I didn’t put the bobbin in going the correct direction (it is the opposite of my 15-91 Singer) and second – I didn’t check the stitching on the back.

When I did the first turn I saw that there were eyelashes all over the back of the quilt which meant I had to use my seam ripper and remove all the stitching from about 8 inches of the quilt. Ugh!

Using the longarm to quilt

Random Mix

I just randomly grabbed my triangles and the only thing I did was make sure I didn’t sew 2 of the same fabric together. When I worked on the rows I did the same thing.

The railing going downstairs is a perfect place to show off a quilt!

Rusty Approves

Rusty loves his dog ramp and if I walk into the bedroom….he’ll immediately get on the bed! He finally is using it when he gets off of the bed now which is great!

    Hello Connie:
I must admit I love all your quilt patterns, esp. the ones that are easy to follow & take little time to make into quilts! I use your triangle blocks pattern whenever I need to make a quilt in a jiffy.

  7. Your quilt is lovely and the color combination is so warm and welcoming. Like Sandy above, I also have the same railing design. I had never thought to hang a quilt on my railing as it is in the dining area, but I might have to try it for the holidays. Thank you for bringing a bit of inspiration and friendship into my life everyday with your newsy letter. Have a great holiday and wonderful year ahead.

  8. Hello!
Twilight Triangles turned out great, I love those colors. I feel your pain. I have a longarm and have spent many hours with my seam ripper picking out stitches. Five minutes of quilting equals hours of picking. Nice to see little Rusty enjoying his quilt. : )
Merry Christmas to you and Builder Bob!

  9. Carolyn Thompson says:

  11. Sandy L Claessens says:

Guess what? Your wooden railing is exactly like mine! The builders must have ordered their railings from the same place. Love it! Sandy

This Twilight Triangles quilt is so beautiful.
I would love to make it except I have not yet mastered free motion quilting.
Is there an alternative quilting type to use with this quilt?
Thanks for all you do to encourage your subscribers with great tutorials.
Happiness is seeing Rusty so captivated with all your lovely projects.
