Star Light Star Bright  Wall Hanging Tutorial

This is a tutorial for my Star Light Star Bright wall hanging that I shared on the AccuQuilt blog. This small wall hanging uses not one but three different AccuQuilt dies. I used the GO! 3″ x 6″ finished Half Rectangle Triangle die,  GO! 6″ finished Snowball die and the GO! 2 1/2″ Strip Cutter die.
I used a new collection of beautiful batiks called Country Side from Island Batik that I had used to make my Scattered quilt.

I had just enough of the batiks left over so I could make this wall hanging. It would so neat hanging in a cabin!

The finished size of the quilt is 22 inches by 22 inches and is also perfect as a table topper.

Materials needed:

• 2/3 yard navy
• 1/4 yard cream
• 1/4 yard tan
•  #55411 GO! Half Rectangle Triangle die
•  #55017 GO! 2 1/2″ Strip Cutter die
• #55330 GO! 6″ Snowball
• batting and backing

You will need:

• 8 – tan 3″ x 6″ half rectangle triangles
• 8 – cream 3″ x 6″ half rectangle triangles
• 5 – 6″ large snowball pieces
• 20 – snowball corner pieces
• 4 – 2 1/2″ strips for the border
• 3 – 2 1/2″ strips for binding

Cut your cream and tan fabric into strips a minimum of 4″ wide and then use the GO! 3″ x 6″ Half Rectangle Triangle die. Place your fabrics right sides together so you get both angles. I am using the GO! Fabric Cutter.

Sew all seam with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Since I am using batiks, there is no right or wrong side. You want to make sure you sew the pieces together as shown. Make 4 blocks in each direction for a total of 8 blocks.

The thing I absolutely love about the AccuQuilt dies is the notched corners. It really makes it easy to line up your pieces.

Use the GO! Snowball die and cut 5 of the large piece of the blue and then cut 20 of the half square triangles in cream. I cut a strip of fabric about 7 inches wide. All of the dies can be used with the GO! Fabric cutter, I was working on another project and switched to my GO! BIG Electric Fabric cutter.

Sew the corners on your block.

The notched corners on the die make it fast and easy to sew your block sections together.

Layout your pieces as shown below.

Sew the blocks together in rows.

Sew the rows together.

Use the GO! 2 1/2″ Strip Cutter die to cut the borders.

• Cut 2 – 18 1/2″
• Cut 2 – 22 1/2″

The finished piece is ready to be quilted. I used a Hobbs 80/20 Poly Cotton batting. I also used a 2 1/2″ binding.

Quilting adds to much to the quilt. Lately I have been doing the lines in the background and really like the way it stands out.

Here it is hanging outside on the deck.

Inside the colors aren’t as vibrant but the quilting really shows up!
