I missed doing a blog post last Monday so this is Monday Happenings 24 in my studio.

Monday Happenings 24 in my studio

I’m working ahead on my Island Batik Ambassador quilt for September. This will be a Crazy quilt design and once my grandson saw the blocks he called dibs.

My longarm is being used as storage for some of our cardmaking supplies but you can see the quilt blocks on the wall.

Visitors coming

We had friends stay with their granddaughters last night and they are heading to Adventureland today. That meant I really cleaned up my quilt studio and the guest bedroom (which is why so much is on the longarm). There is a blowup mattress on the bed which will go on the floor for the grandkids.

Washing Quilts

I like to wash my quilts before they go to someone else. I use cold water and always put a Color Catcher in with the quilt. I have had very good luck using them. I then put the quilt in the dryer on a medium heat the same as I use for casual clothes. One important thing – I remove the quilt from the wash machine as soon as it finishes. I don’t want to worry about wet fabric bleeding.

That is Color Burst and Sorbet on the ironing board.

Tomatoes in the raised beds

I am so glad we put in raised garden beds last year because we have had so much rain. Several people said their gardens didn’t survive the rain. Our cherry tomatoes are going crazy. The regular tomatoes had some fungus or bug but it looks like they are going to be okay now.

Rusty

I tried to get Rusty to look at the camera but I think he was trying to figure out where a quilt was. Those are my plants that I brought inside last fall, they are beautiful.

August Island Batik Ambassador Project

This month our challenge is to decorate our Oliso carrying case for the M3Pro mini iron and in my next post I’ll share mine. I think you’ll like it. I have the Oliso green M3Pro Project Steam Iron with solemate.

Lots of Tomatoes

Yesterday our friends granddaughters had fun picking cherry tomatoes. They did a great job and then we picked some regular tomatoes. Bumper crop!

  1. Beautiful tomatoes! live in Kansas, and all I have are little flowers on my tomato plant It’s not happy here. what is the name of the quilt block on the banister? I’d sure would like to make one of those.

  2. The tomatoes look DELICIOUS!!

Hello Connie Dear: Your quilts are always stunning! I love the crazy quilt squares you have on your design wall. I can see why your grandson put dibs on them. You certainly do have a massive supply of tomatoes. Gazpacho and Salsa and so much more. Rusty is looking good. Summer Smiles my friend.

  4. Your grandson is going to love that beautiful quilt . I wish I had some tomatoes . We have to grow everything on our deck because of the bears. HOWEVER something has been eating my plants . I got one picking from my basil and oregano plants . had a toned green tomatoes , went out yesterday to water and they have been eaten plus part of the plant. NOT a good year for my herbs and veggies BUT there’s always quilting ; )

    1. Wish I could give you some Carol, I think it would be scary to have bears come right up to your house but….neat to see them while inside and safe and quilting.

  5. Your crazy quilt blocks are beautiful. I can see why the quilt has dibs set already. Your tomatoes are fantastic. Our cherry, Roma and salad ones are good, but the larger ones have not done well with the fog this summer. Enjoy making a new mess in that clean studio.

    1. I always love using browns and greens. We did have bottom rot on our big tomatoes for a bit but it looks like we are past that. I didn’t realize fog would affect tomatoes. We have been getting poor air quality from the fires in Canada.

  6. Oh, I love your garden produce! Home grown tomatoes are the best. You have almost, again almost, inspired me to have a garden – a raised bed only. They certainly seem the way to go. I never wash my quilts before gifting them, but keep wondering if I should. I think yours look great! I just never wanted the recipient to think it was a used item, but maybe they wouldn’t look like it. I don’t think yours do.

    1. Raised beds are the way to go Kate, no more kneeling. I like to wash a quilt before gifting to make sure there is no bleeding and I tell them how I washed it so they can do it in the future.

Oh Rusty! Looking for a quilt so he can pose. He is so smart!
Your tomatoes are beautiful! I had a knee replaced July 14 so in planning for surgery, the only flowers I planted are in a pot by the front door. I was concerned about watering so I have no hanging baskets or annuals. I have to have tomatoes so I planted a grape tomato in a pot and 3 tomatoes in a raised bed. Thankfully we have had a lot of rain so I haven’t had to water since surgery.

  8. Lori Quakenbush says:

What do you do with all of your tomatoes?

  9. Brenda @ Songbird Designs says:

Your studio looks amazing, Connie. I hope you and Rusty have a great walk today. Have a good week.

  10. Vicki in MN says:

I am so jealous of your big studio;) You really got a haul of tomatoes, my 4 plants are producing just enough for me to eat right away. The cucumbers are doing ok but we would eat more if there were more, LOL. Nice weather here this past week too.

  11. Oh those tomatoes! Yum!!
Your studio looks wonderful, so it’s no wonder you create such beautiful quilts. I also have had great success washing quilts in cold water with color catchers.
