Miss Sadie – Our Rescue Dog

This is little Sadie, a new addition to our family. Builder Bob found her last week. She crawled out of a ditch and sat in the road right in front of the truck Bob was driving. He stopped, picked her up, and put her along the side of the road so she wouldn’t get hit.

Before he could drive away, she was back in the center of the road so he scooped her up and brought her home as there was a busy highway close by and he didn’t want her to get hit.

I was outside when Bob came home and he said “Look honey, I found a puppy for you”. She was so tiny and fragile. Poor little thing was covered in fleas! I have never, ever seen a dog so covered in fleas as she was! She had a large cauliflower-looking growth on top of her head and when I looked at her mouth and teeth I could see that one tooth was loose. I knew she was an older dog and you could also see that she had recently had puppies.

I ran to the store and bought some flea shampoo so we could give her a bath immediately. My neighbor gave us some food as she has Yorkies and Sadie spent her first night with us.

Our neighbor was able to get us an appointment at her veterinarian and the next day we took her in so we could get rid of her fleas, get her checked out and see if she was chipped.

The veterinarian estimated that she is approximately 7 years old, has had at least one litter, and has some problems. She was given NexGard which has completely eliminated the fleas and Sentinel for worms. We had her tested and she doesn’t have Heartworms.

Poor Sadie was malnourished and it is suspected that she was a puppy mill mama. Maybe she couldn’t have any more litters so they got rid of her. Unfortunately, it is not unusual to find cats and dogs dumped out in the country.

Two of her front teeth are very loose and need to come out, she is also intact and has 6-8 mammary tumors so surgery is needed to remove them, spay her, remove the front teeth, and also some growths on her skin.

When Sadie had her surgeries, the veterinarian decided that she was closer to 10 years old. The large growth on her head was removed and a couple of others.

Bonded with Bob

We don’t know if she bonded so closely with Bob because he found her or if she wasn’t that fond of me because a woman mistreated her. She is Bob’s shadow and follows him everywhere.
