DIY Soda Bottle Birdhouses

She had seen birdhouses made with two-liter soda bottles on Pinterest and brought the bottles, paint, the eye hooks…..everything for us to make them. You use one bottle for the roof and another bottle for the house.
We made 5 birdhouses so we needed 10 soda bottles for them.
For the roofs we cut the top of 5 bottles about half way down. We tried to trim them the tops a little so they would look like petals. We just experimented with cutting the roofs…..they looked a little strange, each of us had our own ideas of what the roof should look like. We then spray painted the tops black.Next you want to put the birdhouse bottles on dowels and spray them outside with white spray paint before painting with the fun colors.
I always keep my flannel backed tablecloth handy for painting projects like this with the grand kids. They had given me some potted flowers which came in handy to put hold the soda bottles on dowels to make it easier to paint.
Everyone really had fun painting and showing off a shirt that had been painted the week before.
We even put Builder Bob to work drilling the holes in the top of the lids and cutting the dowels for us.
We use outside acrylic paints and then used a permanent black marker to add some details to our cute DIY soda bottle bird houses.
I’m not sure if birds will use them but they really turned out neat. Mine is orange…..my favorite color.
Then it was time for some selfie practice……this is the best of some strange photos.
Then we got Xander to take some photos……he likes weird angles……
I like this one!
Then it was time for me to get a couple photos of them…..by this time the girls had gotten bored and wandered over to see their uncle next door.
A couple of characters!! We also had lunch at the Lighthouse just down the road, it was a wonderful day!

What a perfect day Connie – your family is so wonderful! Love seeing all your photos and how much fun you make together!
How special to have your family around to do some fun projects like that. And silly photos are good – kinda like setting quilt blocks on point! So glad you got to enjoy your family time.
Your houses are beautiful and I think that the roofs look just fine. Very fairy. They will add a fun and colorful touch to the garden.
