Quilt Size: 46″ x 62″
I made 12 quilt blocks and the quilt finished just a little smaller than my original one. I think it is because of it being flannel.
Each block is 16 1/2-inches unfinished and will be a 16-inch quilt block in the quilt.

Woolie Fence Quilt
Now that the weather is getting cool I enjoyed working with flannel once again. Recently I made the Holly Jolly Strip Lap quilt and love how warm and cozy it is.
Missouri Star Quilt Co. sent me this 2-1/2-inch strips set of Maywood Studio Woolies Flannel and asked me to make one of my favorite quilt blocks.

Favorite Quilt Block
I decided to make the quilt block that I used in my Rainbow Rail Fence Quilt. Here is a photo of it and also my granddaughters. Would you believe this photo was taken 10 years ago? Having a blog is makes it so much fun to look back at things.

Challenge Blocks
I was challenged to make the block the way I normally do which is variations of the same color and then make the block again differently.
I choose to use flannel and also randomly sew the strips together without worrying if they matched.

Sewing the Strips
I sewed 3 different 2 1/2-inch strips together with a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

Cutting the Strips
Next I sub-cut the sets of strips into 10 1/2-inch blocks. Evidently these flannel strips were a little shorter than my regular strip sets and I had to be careful to get all four 10 1/2-inch blocks.

Rusty
Rusty was glad to pose with the quilt. It was quilted but I hadn’t added the binding yet when I took this photo.

Quilted
Yesterday I used my Noltings long arm to quilt. I used an off-white thread and a brown flannel on the back. In the center of each off-white square I did a different design, you can see it on the back.

I had three 2 1/2-inch strips left so I added some of the leftover backing flannel and them to make my quilt binding.

I saw your wonderful Woolies Flannel quilt and ordered it myself. I hope mine turns out as well as yours. I was wondering if you put batting in between your top and back or would it be too thick? I would like a reply and what you think is the best option. I know the flannel is a little heavier than quilting cotton and could I use anything else in between front and back. Thanks for the response.
This quilt turned out beautiful and I am sure it is nice and cozy. I love snuggling in my small flannel quilts.
oh all the flannels look so cozy! And just check out your beautiful stippling that shows up so good on the backing!!!
That looks great and I’ll bet that flannel is super cozy feeling. I think Rusty is smiling with approval. It is fun to look back on the older photos with the kids, but it makes us realize how quickly time passes.
I love everything about this quilt. Flannel does have a few distinctive characteristics but is worth it in the end. It is a great quilt to curl up with during our cold winter months. Our weather has been vacillating between rain and snow for the last couple of weeks. I am working on a flannel quilt right now and plan to do this quilt by Christmas. It has been a much cooler fall than normal for our area. Rusty is very cute as always, and this quilt matches his beautiful coat.

Hi Connie, so glad you had a good time at your event. I know how you feel after attending something like that, you need at least one day to recover! Love this pattern, wool make such a cuddly quilt. I made one some time ago, I may need to make another! Thanks!
Awe Rusty! I missed you!
I realized I hadn’t received an email from you for a while so I signed up for your newsletter again. I look in my junk folder when my email says I have junk and it was never in there so I’m not sure what happened. I saw the photo of Rusty on facebook.
Thanks for this pattern. It looks like a great guy quilt with those flannel strips.
Rusty looks happy. Love seeing him posing.
Love it, Connie, and also love seeing Rusty’s sweet smile and pose!! Have a great week.
Thanks Brenda, I forgot how much I like flannel, guess I dig out that tote of flannel squares I have and make some baby quilts.
Love this pattern and the wide variations available – you could go
wild with this one — thanks for the great ideas – Love little Rusty he

This is really pretty. I like those colors. Being flannel, it’s gonna be so cuddly and warm. I should get some flannel and give it a go. Rusty always looks like he’s smiling. Sweet boy!
