Irish Chain Blog Hop with Island Batik and Accuquilt
The May 2025 Island Batik Challenge is a blog hop partnered with AccuQuilt! We received the GO! Irish Chain as the die for the May Blog Hop challenge which is a BOB (Block on Board) with all of the dies on one board.

Rustic Riches and the Irish Chain
I used the beautiful winter collection called Rustic Riches by Jerry Khiev from Island Batik that was in my Island Batik ambassador box in January. This is what was in my surprise bundle. I love the colors in this collection.
There was also 2 yards of a dark brown Leaves and Dots and 2 yards of a gold that coordinated with the collection. I also had yardage of Cornsilk that I used for my background fabric.

Accuquilt is one of our sponsors and we received their new Irish Chain die. This is a BOB which means Block On Board. It makes a 10-inch finished quilt block and the nice thing about this die is it can be used in even the GO! me die cutter.

Accuquilt
The great thing about the Irish Chain die is that you can use any of the Accuquilt cutting machines. I always use my GO Big Electric cutter but this die will also work in the small GO! Me cutter.

Cutting the fabric
There are 4 different sizes of blocks to cut out, it made it fast to cut all the pieces for the quilt.

Piecing the block
Here are photos showing how the quilt blocks are assembled.

Each block will be 10 1/2-inches unfinished.

Free Diamond Quilt Pattern
You can get the free quilt pattern for Diamond Quilt at Accuquilt. You will need to sign up for a free account. I changed the pattern just a little so I could use every batik in the Rustic Riches collection.
In the quilt pattern, you make larger blocks with 4 of the small blocks and some sashing using the largest strip that is cut. The unfinished size of these are 15 1/2-inches.

My Quilt
I liked adding the dark brown batiks squares in between each of the large blocks.

Hobbs Heirloom Premium Cotton Batting
In our ambassador boxes we receive several packages of Hobbs battings. I used Hobbs Heirloom Premium cotton batting and quilted on my Noltings long arm.

Cornsilk Naturally Neutral
I added a 3-inch border of the Cornsilk batik that is part of the Naturally Neutrals from Island Batik and also used it for the binding.
You can find the Rustic Riches batiks available online here.

Lap Quilt 54 x 70
My quilt is a lap size at 54″ x 70″.

Batiks on the Back
For the backing I used more of the Cornsilk batik and also a gold blender.

Cozy Quilt
It will be fun to watch tv and have this quilt wrapped around me.

Closeup of the Quilting
The colors in the Rustic Riches batiks look so neat together, I used every single one in my quilt.

Rusty
Little Rusty is such a good poser and such a cutie!

So pretty, Connie. I love how you made a completely unique Irish Chain quilt. It is most certainly Rusty approved!! He’s such a little cutie pie!
love the ISLAND BATIK SELECTIONS OF MATERIALS.
The batik fabric bundles are gorgeous as is the new quilt you made. What a great use of the beautiful fabrics you were working with.
And my dream destination for quilting would be a house in the woods by a lake near a quilt shop
What a fun twist to a traditional design!
Love the fabric in your quilt. The design is very eye=catching.
Would love to go to either Paduca or Houston.
Batiks quilts are always stunning!
Beautiful finish…really love the colors in the Rustic Riches. Fun pattern.
What a gorgeous quilt Connie. I love it. Stunning design and fabric collection just inspires me to make one like yours. Great job.
Beautiful colors and wonderful color placement in your quilt. I also like your variation from the original pattern. Very creative.

Beautiful quilt Connie. I have never seen an Irish Chain quilt made like this before. I really like this design.
My dream quilting adventure would be an Alaskan quilt retreat. I would love to go there and have fun along the way.
Love your quilt Connie! And Rusty is quite a handsome fellow!
Very clever as it doesn’t remind me at all of Irish Chain!
