16″ x 16″ Kite Table Topper
I was cleaning up my quilt studio and I came across a pile of quilt blocks that I made while working on a wall hanging. I had decided the green was too bright for the quilt project and didn’t use them.

Using the AccuQuilt Go! Big
The Kite quilt block can be made by paper piecing (I have a download for you), special templates or by using the AccuQuilt Go! Big. I always have my cutting machine set up, can you see Rusty on the floor? I also used it for my Dresden Plate quilt.

AccuQuilt GO! 8″ Qube Angles
This die is included in the AccuQuilt GO! 8″ Qube Angles Companion set which includes the 4″ Kite Center, Triangles in a Square center 4″, Triangles in a Square Sides 4″ and the Trapezoid 45 degree.
5 Inch Batik Strips
I used some 5-inch Island Batik fabric strips to cut the pieces. Can you see how much I have used the cutting mat?

Kite 4-inch Quilt Block
The blocks were too pretty to stick in my quilt box of experimental quilt blocks so I laid them out on my table and started arranging them.
Here is one of the 4-inch Kite quilt blocks, lets see what we can do with this block.

4 Kite Quilt Blocks
When I sewed 2 blocks together I thought it looked pretty strange but when I laid 2 more out I could see a design I kind of liked.

Experimenting
I thought this was a pretty neat design when the 4 sections were sewn together.

16 Quilt Blocks
I have 16 quilt blocks, enough to make 4 larger blocks.

Pieced Topper
This would make a beautiful table topper that could be used for the Christmas holidays or in any room where a touch of green would work.
I’m not sure I would like this design if each kite was a different color, what do you think?

Finished Kite Topper
I did a simple meandering quilting using 50wt Aurifil thread and I also used leftover scraps of my Hobbs 80/20 batting and zig-zagged them together.

Rusty Approved Kite Topper
Doesn’t Rusty look cute on his bear skin rug! It is really thick and when my granddaughters come over, they like to cuddle with Rusty on it.

AccuQuilt GO! Kite 4″ Finished Die
When I searched on AccuQuilt, I found out that unfortunately this die has been discontinued at AccuQuilt but I did find it on Etsy so if you like it, this is the time to grab it! GO! Kite 4″ Finished die.

Otherwise the 8″ Angles Qube is still available at AccuQuilt.
Paper Pieced Kite Block
If you like paper-piecing, you could make the Kite blocks that way. I have a FREE downloadable PDF with two 4-inch Kite blocks that you can use.

Coleus Plant Clippings
I brought some plant clippings in and put them in water. The strangest this is these are not getting any roots but look at how the flowers have opened! I have had them inside for several weeks.
Several years ago I bought Builder Bob this cute Campbell’s recipe box where he keeps his favorite family recipes.

That is a wonderful use of those leftover blocks. So pretty! And I’ve downloaded the template because I may have to try these out too. Thanks for sharing!
Hello Connie, I love this little quilt. Green has always been my favorite color and I don’t believe I would like it with mixed colors. You have been such an inspiration to me and my quilting. I also love the pictures of Rusty. Thank you so much. Keep up the great job. Hugs, Lois
I love the kite table topper as much as Rusty does !!
Thanks for sharing this design, Connie.
I agree with Susan N that using different colour blocks would not have the same startling effect. The green and white looks fresh and inviting.
Very avant garde! Love that it isn’t lined up like little soldiers, although that would work too. I have the Cactus Flower pattern on the table now – finally finished the neck warmers for the dog charity auction. Something always comes up to push something I want to do to the side. Thanks!!!!!
Thank you for the PP download. I like the way you have put them together. I agree that four different colored blocks put together would not have the same effect as just the green color.
A great use of some leftover pieces. Love how you twisted and turned them into a design.
I like the Kite Table Topper. I think I have a Kite plastic template somewhere, but have your PDF template. If AQ discontinued the Kite die, it may bring it back which they do every so often. I see Rusty is your forever sewing buddy. My little girl has a certain bed that she only uses when I’m sewing. When she sees me starting to sew, she gets in her “sewing basket” to snooze while I sew.
Wishing all the Connie FMBTR ladies and families a blessed Thanksgiving.
That is a lovely table topper. Thank you for sending the pdf copy. I did print it out and plan on making it.
Thank you
