The Ziggy Zag Holiday Table Runner is a perfect quilt project for Christmas!

Ziggy Zag Holiday Table Runner

I used 2 different red batiks and 2 different green batiks and a white for the background. I found the cute gnome and utensils at Dollar Tree yesterday!

My Original Table Runner

The size of this table runner is 18″ x 30″, need it larger? Just add borders like this one and you’ll have a 23″ x 35″ table runner.

I originally designed this for AccuQuilt and you can find the FREE pattern on their website. You do have to sign up but it is free.

The PDF will have all the information on making the runner and can be great to use even if you don’t have an AccuQuilt.

If you have the GO! Qube Mix & Match 6″ dies and the GO! Qube 6″ Companion Set Corners you can make this in no time at all. Please read the pattern for the directions.

2017

Would you believe I first made this table runner in 2017! Same sewing machine but I finally painted it white.

Rotary Cutting the blocks

Each quilt block is a 3½” unfinished size. For the red blocks use 2 different reds and cut:

  • RED – cut (15) 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares
  • RED PRINT – cut (15) 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares
  • WHITE – cut (60) 2″ x 2″ squares
  1. Mark a diagonal line on the 2″ white squares.
  2. Place on two opposite corners of the red block and stitch on the line.
  3. Fold back the 2″ white and trim.

Four Patch Blocks

Each quilt block is a 3½” unfinished size. For the green blocks use 2 different greens and cut:

  • LIGHT GREEN – cut (30) 2″ x 2″ squares
  • GREEN – cut (30) 2″ x 2″ squares
  • WHITE – cut (60) 2″ x 2″ squares
  1. Make 4 patch quilt blocks.
  2. You could also cut 2″ x WOF strips and sew your green and white strips together and then subcut the pieces.
  3. Each block will be 3½” x 3½”.

Lay out the blocks in 10 rows of 6 blocks each as shown in the diagram. Sew the blocks together into rows. Press seams to one side.

Layer batting between quilt top and backing and quilt as desired. Adding binding.

Yardage

The Ziggy Zag Holiday Table Runner can be made with fat quarters or yardage.

You will need one fat quarter or 1/4 yard each of the reds and greens. The background fabric will need to be 3/8 of a yard or two fat quarters.

Binding 1/4 yard and backing – 1 yard

Video

I did a short video showing me adding the binding to the table runner, if you watch until the end you get to see Rusty!

I’m a purple fanatic so I would love to make the purple, green and white version of the ziggy-zag table runner.
Both versions are beautiful so I will follow up with the red, white and green and maybe do a purple, blue and white version as well.
Gift-giving happens all year so who wouldn’t like to receive one of these lovely table runners.
Thanks as always Connie for sharing your wonderful designs
