This month all of the Island Batik ambassadors were challenged to make a Crazy quilt. This blog post will share my Threaded Chaos Island Batik Challenge. I also have a giveaway!

66″ x 80″ Crazy Quilt

My quilt is 66-inches by 80-inches and is made from 20 quilt blocks. My grandson loved the colors and design so this will go to him.

Threaded Chaos Island Batik Challenge

This month we were sponsored by Aurifil thread who sent us a collection of thread to use with our Island Batik fabric collection.

Earth Essence Collection

I made my Crazy quilt using the Earth Essence Island Batik fabric collection by Kathy Engle which is from the Spring 2025 fabrics.

Crazy Block

I normally do all of my sewing on my vintage 15-91 Singer but for this quilt I wanted to add fancy stitches to the seams so I used my EverSewn sewing machine. It did a great job and there were many different stitches I could use.

For the block I started out with a 5 sided center piece to give the “crazy look”. It could be any size but I cut a 4-inch wide strip of my dark brown batik. I then sub cut this into 4-inch squares.

Crazy Quilt Block

Look at the following diagram to see how I trimmed the 4-inch square to give me 5 sides.

Adding the embroidery

I added 2½” strips of my various batiks to the center blocks. Then I pressed the seam toward the side I was going to add the embroidery to. I did the embroidery and then added another strip of fabric and continued this sequence until I had a large block.

The next photo shows the wrong side of the block. When I did the embroidery I didn’t have to add a stabilizer as I was sewing through 3 thicknesses of fabric.

adding fabric to the centers

15 Inch Crazy Quilt Blocks

My original plan was to make 12-inch blocks but I changed to 15-inch blocks. I also started out with 2½-inch strips and then started adding 3½-inch strips.

I have a 15-inch square quilting ruler which made it easy to trim my quilt blocks to the correct size.

Sewing

I really prefer quick quilt projects and this definitely isn’t a fast quilt project. I started out making all of the centers and then finally switched to making individual blocks. About 3 quilt blocks was my limit and then I switched to a different quilt project.

Rusty Posing

I am still so tickled to see Rusty ready to pose on my quilts. It will be 3 years in November since we adopted him. At that time he would cringe if you pointed a phone/camera at him. Look at him now!

Rusty on the quilt

Backing and Batting

The fabric on the back of the quilt is also from Island Batik and I quilted it using my Noltings longarm.

For the batting, I used Hobbs Tuscany Collection 100% Wool that I received from Hobbs Batting.

Your crazy quilt is very pretty. I have 1 satin & lace pieces started with embroidery since 1990’s, seeing yours inspires me to put it to a useful piece. I just started sewing sm items for our church bazzar this month, ie kitchen towel fabric hanging pieces. hanks so much for all your great sewing ideas. Stay safe you & Bob. PS would send a picture, but don’t see how to send, maybe When I get someone’s help, I will)

  2. Julie in GA says:

Your Crazy Quilt turned out great! The colors are perfect as we head into fall. I made one crazy quilt many years ago with fabrics from a theater’s costume shop. I don’t feel the need to ever make one again!

  3. Your crazy quilt is delightful! I made a crazy quilt using fabrics from my children’s childhood clothes. Both of my daughters wanted it, so I cut it in thirds to make a wall-hanging for each of us.

  4. Cheri Vossberg says:

Love your Theaded Chaos Crazy Quilt! Batiks have always been my favorite, and Island Batiks have fantastic colors and patterns! Was thrilled when I visited a batitk factory in Bali and got to try my hand at making my own batik fabric! What a process it is! I’ve done many small crazy quilt projects over the years with beaded embellishments and hand embroidered seams. An envelope evening bag and a Crazy Quilt wall hanging I made, both won ribbons at our local quilt show. I’ve never tried a bedsized crazy quilt, but you’ve inspired me to try my hand at it and to use my machine’s fancy stitches instead of taking years to do it by hand!

  5. Patsy Cook says:

I’ve never made a crazy quilt although seeing yours I would like to try a small one. I have been quilting for about a year half and this would allow me to use my new decorative stitches.

  6. Laura Jansen says:

Our church group makes quilts, etc. to donate to various non-profit organizations. Everyone was throwing away the scraps that were the result of cutting 4 or 5 inch squares for quilts.
I asked the group to save the scraps and have made over 150 6-inch wonky log cabin blocks for a quilt. I have lots of scraps to make additional blocks.
Suggestions on using scraps are always welcome.

  7. Shannon ulvahouse says:

I have never made a crazy quilt on purpose. Some may think some of my quilts may qualify as a “crazy quilt,” but it wasn’t my intention. I like the added embroidery stitches with contrasting thread. It almost looks like lace. I imagine it was quite time consuming.

  8. Dianne Holcombe says:

I have made a small, doll-sized, crazy quilt with one of my granddaughters. It was not all batiks, but whatever I had in my scrap pile. Her sister seems to like embroidery, so maybe we can get her involved. I share my extras with them, so these fat quarters would be perfect! Yours turned out great!

  9. Amy Kollasch says:

I have not made one yet, but I do love your idea of adding embroidery stitches. That makes it even more unique. Love the idea.

  10. Oh my that crazy quilt and the fabric is beautiful. I am going to pull out my batiks and see what I can do.
    Thanks fir sharing.

  11. I love your crazy quilt Connie! I have never made on, but will add it to the list. Thanks for sharing your projects.

  12. I have never made a crazy quilt, but this is inspiring. The colors are beautiful

  13. My first crazy quilt was a small lap quilt i made for my father in 2015. I used template plastic to cut out my pentagram. The fabrics were all bold bright colours. When my dad died I gave the quilt to a friend who admired it.

  14. Melody Lutz says:

Great results! I myself, have never made a crazy quilt.

  15. I have made a small 6″ x 10″ crazy quilt. I agree, it is a slow going endeavor. Your quilt turned out great.

  16. Marlene Etter says:

    Hi Connie,
I have never made a crazy quilt. I don’t have the space to make a full quilt so I only make table runners & toppers, mantle cloths, wallhangings and small projects. I will have to try a crazy quilt small project.
    Thanks!

  17. That is a beautiful quilt!! I guess a crazy quilt would be time consuming, but the finished product was well worth the wait and your time!! I will be looking for the fabrics for this!! Highly inspirational!! Thank you for sharing!!

  18. Crazy quilts are my favorite. Working on a new one right now. They say no rules but when I started my first block it took me about 8 hours. I have learned piecing but the embroidery is my favorite.

  19. Connie this quilt is amazing! I love the colors and as I’m reading about it I’m thinking, that took a while to do all those steps but it was worth it!! I have never done an entire crazy quilt, only started one. May be time to think again..

  20. I have never made a crazy quilt, but after seeing how beautiful yours turned out, I really want to make one now. Rusty resting on your beautiful quilt is just so cute.
    Pat B.

  21. For some reason, I’ve always been intimidated by Crazy Quilts. The batiks you used are gorgeous and, using the machine for the fancy stitches, I’m tempted to actually try one after seeing yours!

  22. I ate at a restaurant years ago in the Berkshire’s and they had an antique crazy quilt on display that was so beautiful! I remember admiring the different stitches that were used along with the rich velvet fabrics interspersed throughout the quilt. I love your quilt and “yes” Rusty has come a LONG way! He is living the best life EVER with you and Bob!

  23. Karen Gibbs says:

I have never made a crazy quilt. my roommate in college had one her mother had made that was all hand embroidered. It was incredible. Love the colors in the bundle! Go, Rusty!!!

  24. I haven’t made a crazy quilt but would like to try it. The quilt you made was beautiful, and the colors blended so good together. The only quilt I’ve done that would come close to this is when I made 1 to 2 inch squares of left over material I had. When I got this done it was a present to my first great nephew when he was born (he’s going to be 21).

  25. I love your crazy quilt! I have not done a crazy quilt. But would love to make this
    Thank you

  26. Bobbie Z. says:

I have never made a crazy quilt, but I have my grandmother’s quilt that she made. I am currently making a small wall hanging with two orphan blocks on the ends and a crazy mini patch in the middle. I am using metallic thread in bronze for my hand stitching.
Thanks for the chance to win the fabric bundle.

  27. I have made a crazy quilt, Connie, but then made it into a long skirt for a gift for my sister..love your quilt. i would love to win the fat quarters.

  28. Kris Ambeau says:

I love the colors in this quilt. I’ve never made a crazy quit but your design is inspiring.

  32. I like the crazy quilt blocks, and yes, I have made several. Back in the late 60’s this was very popular. Glad to see it back again.

  33. Kathy Whetstine says:

I absolutely love that quilt. First, it’s my favorite colors to work with, but I love the fancy stitching you did. I have never liked the idea of a crazy quilt but now I have to do this. I love it so much and just showed it to my husband and he likes it too. Win, win ❤️

  34. I have made a crazy quilt–a doll size made with Mary Engelbrite fabrics–turned out really cute! Love your quilt and those fabrics are georgeous!!

Rusty has come so far! He is so blessed to be your dog 🙂

Your quilt is beautiful. The colors are perfect for fall.
I have never made a crazy quilt. Your instructions make it seem possible.
    Thank you for sharing.

  43. Connie, I love the quilt! Yes, I often make scrap quilts. My mom loved sewing bits and pieces together to create a truly unique quilt and I enjoy the same. Hope it doesn’t get too hot next week.

  44. Amy Cottrell says:

    I
My specialty is crazy quilts. I love the embellishments. TY for all you do for the quilting world. And thank you to Rusty, the best quilt tester of all!

  45. Ha! Love that last photo of Rusty. Your crazy quilt turned out so well. Those fabrics are yummy and perfect for fall sewing. I have done crazy quilting. It was one of the first techniques I learned, but the stitching was done by hand.

  46. Kathy Upton says:

I made one crazy quilt with my mom right before she passed away. We used silks, velvets and corduroys in jewel tones. As we were making it for one of her older sisters we didn’t take time to embroider it. We used the flip & sew method to piece and quilt it in one step onto a muslin square then joined the blocks via the quilt-as-you-go method. Mom had purchased a crazy quilt template set we used and rotated each block so the blocks all looked different. Thank you for this post…it brought back a happy memory to this only child who misses her mother.

  47. Never made a crazy quilt but have an old one my grandmother made. It was velvet with decorative hand stitches .

  48. Susan Carlson says:

I have never made a crazy quilt, but what a wonderful way to use all those decorative stitches we hardly ever use. I can see how it would be a quilt in progress. Maybe this winter.

  49. Linda Simon says:

I have never made a crazy quilt though I have one. 😁

  50. What a fabulous quilt – I think your pup agrees! I am inspired to make a crazy quilt now!

  51. Gaylene Stout says:

I have never made a crazy quilt. Still trying to decide on colors and need to get a pattern.

  52. Cindy Berry says:

That is a fun and lovely crazy quilt Connie. Though I have never made one I appreciate the hard work that goes into making one. Please enter my name in the drawing. cmberry@lsu.edu

  53. Laura Erickson says:

I have made 2 crazy quilt wall hangings, one in white with different fabrics and hand stitched decorative stitching. The other one used the same basic pattern but I added colored stitching and embellishments.

  54. Anne Rightler says:

I have not made a crazy quilt but have often thought about it!

  55. Mary Burn says:

I started a crazy quilt several years ago but it was put aside so I don’t know if I will ever finish it. Your quilt is beautiful

  56. Wow! Your quilt is beautiful! Lucky grandson! I have never made a crazy quilt for the reason you mentioned…a LOT of work. You persevered and now you have a beautiful quilt to gift your grandson…well done!

  58. Joyce Carter says:

Connie, your quilt is absolutely beautiful. These fabrics look fantastic with this pattern. And the embroidery really shows up. I haven’t made a crazy quilt yet, but I do have a pattern for one so I need to start on one soon. Thank you for your giveaway.

  59. Debra Dame says:

I’ve never made a crazy quilt but you’ve inspired me! Rusty is a treasure!

  60. Another beautiful creation by Connie! I love Crazy Patch quilts and also love the earth/fall colors. Rusty seems to find it peaceful also.
Crazy patch blocks can be scrappy and forgiving, so great for beginners. Deciding what decorative stitches to use and trimming the blocks would be EZ.

  61. Sheila B. says:

Your quilt is beautiful. I’ve always wanted to make one. Give sweet Rusty a hug.

  62. I have not made a crazy quilt, but really want to.

  63. I have made several crazy quilts, some as small as coasters and others lap size. One of my sisters loathes them because she prefers things in nice neat symmetrical rows and detests all things scrap quilts. A friend of mine has commissioned me to make a stack of large crazy and crumb quilt blocks for them to use for making dolls.

  64. The quilt is quite beautiful and will cover your grandson in love!
So fun to see the change in Rusty over time in such a loving household. <3
I received some things in the past, so good luck to everyone else.

  65. Joyce Sochacki says:

I have never made a crazy quilt-but would like to make one

  66. Jeanine from SE Iowa says:

Yes, I have made many crazy quilts as I always have so many odd strips left over from projects. All have been given away to charity.

  67. Susan Munger says:

I’ve never made a crazy quilt. It’s on my bucket list. I love batiks. Your crazy quilt is beautiful

  68. I don’t think you should give that quilt away, it matches Rusty!

  69. I’ve made a few crazy quilts in my time. I love hand embroidering, so that is how I embellished. Just wall-sized quilts though.

  70. Connie,

I have never made a crazy quilt. The one you have pictured is beautiful and would love to try it. Thank you for sharing all of your amazing quilts.
    Patti

  71. I have never made a crazy quilt, but yours is beautiful. You’ve inspired me to try.

  72. Delpha Blankinship says:

Thank you for showing us your beautiful quilt. I love the colors too. Since I’m new to quilting, I think it would be fun to try a crazy quilt. I have a Baby Lock sewing machine and would enjoy using all the different stitches it has. I love Batik’s, the colors are so beautiful!
Rusty is so cute posing in all your photos. Our dogs have all been rescues and really terrific dogs.

  73. Rusty is adorable! Your crazy quilt is beautiful and the colors make one so ready for fall. I am still a beginner quilter but love a challenge. I have made crazy table toppers and would like to expand that knowledge into a quilt.

Thank you for your emails, from one Iowan to another.

  74. I love the way it turned out! I’ve never made one like this but I have made one with Frankenblocks! 😊 A friend made one like a mosaic with decorative stitches and I’ve been wanting to try one. Thank you for the small project options, too! I’ve been looking for more to try. It’s still miserable here in Central Texas! I can’t wait for cooler weather!!

  75. I’d love to make a crazy quilt, I have some ideas for the basic design and colors, it would be a quilt for my own bed!

I enjoy seeing your method and fabric ideas for making one, thank you!

  76. Cheri Skaggs says:

I’ve been intimidated by the thought of a crazy quilt, but you’ve inspired me to try!

  77. Fred Austgen says:

Well, you know me! I’ve made just about every type of quilt I could! Including a crazy quilt. I’d share a picture, but I think it is on a disc somewhere else and not on this computer. I did mine with scraps that I’d been accumulating since I first started quilting several years ago. Needless to say, I have many more scraps and I will, someday, make another crazy quilt! Oh, and, by the way, I made a room divider curtain with scraps does that count as a crazy quilt? Haha!

  78. Susan Riphahn says:

I am currently trying to finish my first crazy quilt. I loved the process but are now debating about whether to use thin batting or no batting and just flannel on the back. I am torn about the choice.

    1. It depends on what weight you like for a quilt. Years ago I made flannel baby quilts with just flannel on the back.

  79. Joan Deleon says:

No I have not done a crazy quilt. I’m currently sewing 2″ squares on fusable interfacing and making blocks scrappy to make some curtains. A wrench got thrown in when I got vertigo and have been going to PT for it. I can’t drive either. Rusty is a little ham bone…lol he smiles too! Ive had my two dogs for the same amt of time as you…I can’t believe how fast time goes! Beautiful quilt and batiks!

  80. Carol Robinson says:

NICE …. I have a ton of fabric ,lace etc that I have been collecting for a crazy quilt . You inspire me so much. Life has gotten in the way of my quilting . I MUST get back to it for me , I need it !

  81. I have never made a crazy quilt , but admire all the work that goes into them. The earth tone material is right up my alley. Beautiful.

  82. I made three for Christmas one year and I was not a fan of the fabrics I chose so I donated one and gave the others to family members who actually liked the colors. The latest one I did was a mix of scrap quilt blocks and panel blocks sewn into a pattern. This one I gave to my son and daughter in law for their 10th anniversary.

  83. Niki barber says:

Beautiful quilt. Your grandson will cherish it. I have never made a crazy quilt. Rusty has found a great forever home. He’s a cutie.

  84. Janet Fedor says:

Yes I have made a crazy quilt. This collection would used in a baseball field quilt( just the right colors) for a new nephew.

  85. Kathleen Kingsbury says:

I have never made a crazy quilt, but I like the look! Also, I think Rusty can hide on that quilt, he looks camouflaged laying on it!
Thanks for the opportunity to win these beautiful batiks!

  86. I have never made a crazy quilt, but it looks fun. Thanks for the inspiration. I might just try one.

  87. Absolutely gorgeous….lucky grandson. I made a crazy quilt using my scraps. I applied them to a 10 paper and then did a QAYG. Turned out quite good. I embroidered an outline of my hand as a label and signed and dated it. It now becomes on of 8 quilts to give out to my family this Christmas. I finished all 8 quilts and I’m in the process of making baby quilts to donate. I am trying to make a dent in my stash (that is NOT working). I initially set a goal of 40-50 quilts. I currently have finished 22. Biggest problem is the batting. That is getting expensive, but I love my project so will keep going.

  88. Connie,
Thank you for the many ideas you share. After seeing your Crazy Quilt, you have inspired me to go back and work on mine. Since you gave yourself permission to max out at three blocks a day, that seems like a very doable number.

    1. Good luck Brenda, working on a few blocks at a time and then switching to something else worked for me and hopefully will for you!

  89. I have made a crazy quilt and it is a “one and done” experience for me!

  90. Sandy Allen says:

Love your quilt! I have not made a crazy quilt but seeing all on this blog hop have made me want to!

  91. I have never *finished* a crazy quilt – but I have made several crazy quilt jackets that get (mostly) positive comments when I wear them.

Love how your quilt and Rusty compliment each other!

  92. Susan Minster says:

I have never made a crazy quilt

  93. Becky Pack says:

Hi Connie. Hot here in Texas and I, too,am looking forward to Fall. I have never made a crazy quilt but, looking at your work, I am inspired to give it a try. So good to read Rusty feels so comfortable posing on your quilts. He is a cutie and a lucky dog. Thank you. Becky

  94. Lori Quakenbush says:

Love the crazy quilt, i may have to try making it someday. Seems, I never have enough time for my quilting projects. Even though I retired, i’m constantly babysitting my two new granddaughters, or something going on. Unlike you, I am not in a hurry to let go of the warm weather.I’m a summer lover. Love the pictures of Rusty.

  95. I have never made a crazy quilt. Yours is beautiful! You explained the steps very well. I think I can do this! Thanks!

  96. Linda Brennan says:

I have never done a crazy quilt but maybe it’s time to give it a try. Love the stitching.

  97. That is beautiful, with a warm fall vibe. Yes – my very first quilt was a crazy quilt. I made it in 1969 in HS Home Ec. It’s lap size and I even embroidered my name and the date on it. And I still have it.

  98. I have never made one but you have inspired me. Thanks

  99. I have never made a crazy quilt but I have long admired them. As a little girl, I received a crazy quilt pillow topper from an elderly neighbor. I petted that piece and studied it, but I have never known exactly how to make it. Your tutorial really broke it down for me. Thanks, Connie. I love the mellow colors in the fabric line you used.

  100. I love this; the colors are beautiful. I have never made a crazy quilt, but it is on my list of things to try. 🙂

  101. I have not made a crazy quilt per se, but have made a crazy quilt vest, jacket and purse. Smaller projects. Not quite as ambitious as a quilt. Your quilt is lovely.

  102. I typed up a long comment and all the pop up ads sent my tablet into a frenzy and I lost it. So here is attempt #2.
I have not (yet) done a crazy block / quilt. But, YOU have inspired me to try one! I have too many scraps for my little space, so I think I’ll try using them. Also, my largest square Ruler is only 12 1/2″, so that’ll be my finished trim size.
Thank you for the opportunity to win thus beautiful fabric from Island Batics!!!

  103. The crazy quilt is gorgeous, love the colors and the fancy stitches.
And Rusty stretched out on the quilt near the pillows with his eye trained on you as if he’s posing.
I never made a crazy quilt.

  104. Carolyn Baner says:

I always enjoy your projects but normally don’t comment. However, I just had to let you know that your Crazy Quilt is one of the most gorgeous quilts I’ve ever seen. What a labor of love – I am so glad it will stay in your family with your grandson.

  105. Vickie Antepenko says:

    Hi Connie,
I absolutely LOVE your crazy quilt! You did a great job. I used to think about making one, using lace and ribbon over the seams but the embroidery is a fantastic idea. It sounds like a winter project for me!! Thanks for all the great ideas!

  106. I have never made a crazy quilt, but it looks like a fun quilt to make! I am still at the intermediate/advanced beginner stage of learning to quilt. I am enjoying every minute of learning!

  107. I have never made a crazy quilt but after seeing your I may have to try making one.

  108. Gina Morrelli says:

Good morning I’ve been looking at crazy quilts online for a long time. I started one and didn’t finish it yet. The one you did with Batik fabrics is beautiful. I feel inspired now to finish mine and try another.

  109. Susan Green says:

I have never made a crazy quilt. Yours is beautiful. Thank you!

  110. Michele Dressell says:

I have never made a crazy quilt before, only the crazy placemats.
Would love to try. Always up for trying something new.

  111. Michelle Cobb says:

I have never made a crazy quilt but I made a crazy quilt needle case once that I absolutely love.

  112. I have never made a crazy quilt, but I have one my great grandma made that I’m hoping to repair.

  113. Mary DelPrincipe says:

I have never made a Crazy Quilt. Yours is gorgeous! I love the colors! The embroidery stitches plus the finished quilting make this a really unique quilt. A great inspiration to try this method! The Earth Essence line is absolutely lovely!

  114. I have made numerous crazy quilts but smaller wall hangings with all the hand stitches & embellishments.

  115. Nancy Lewis says:

I have never made a crazy quilt, but after seeing yours, I am tempted. This fabric is gorgeous and your quilt turned out spectacular. Great job!!

  116. MaryAnn Mairs says:

I have not ever made a Crazy Quilt, however I have always wanted to do one. I collected silks and satins with the intent of someday making one. This collection of Island Batiks is perfect.

  117. Vivian nolen says:

Good morning from Little Rock, Well I’ve made some crazy-like mini quilts but not with the zig saggy stitches on the outside. I’ve seen some in the Nebraska quilt museum and they were amazing done in velvets. I love trying something new and would give it a whirl. Thanks for entering me into your give-away. Trying to stay cool here in Little Rock until the next cool front decides to roll around. V nolen

  118. I have made several crazy quilts, including one that was with the clothing from a friend of mine’s daughter who died from lukemia at the young age of 18. Before I moved to where I am now, I belonged to a group that was dedicated to crazy quilts.

I also have to tell you that I love your posts and even when I don’t read every email I get, I always read yours because they lift me up even on bad days.

  119. Stunning quilt! How much fabric did you end up using?

  120. I have never made a crazy quilt. Yours is inspiring though! It would be a great scrap buster and a way to use lots of the stitches on my sewing machine!

  121. Sheree A. says:

I have never made a crazy quilt. Your is beautiful and so is Rusty. He is a wonderful quilt model.

  122. Sara Rensink says:

I have made a couple of crazy quilts. I do 8 1/2 blocks of muslin and do strips and crazy shapes. Adding the muslin makes the quilt heavier than it ordinarily would be. I will have to try your crazy quilt pattern. I am looking forward to seeing if my quilt turns out as good as yours did. Thanks for your information. I enjoy your blog.

  123. Theresa S says:

No I haven’t sewed any crazy blocks or quilt yet but it’s on my to do list! Yours is very nice.

  124. I have never made a crazy quilt. It seems that my brain can not conceptualize it. The quilts I make need to be a “normal” style. I have used several of your patterns, River scraps is one. Thanks for everything you do for us.

  125. Patsy Gaul says:

I have not made a crazy quilt before.bI really like how you embroidered on top of blocks as you sewed. That is definitely something I want to try! It really gave your quilt character!

  126. Well, you got me on this post. I’ve not done a crazy quilt, nor have I sewn with batiks. I’m not sure why on either of them! However, I’ll have to give them both a shot. The machine embroidery looks lovely. Thank you for the inspiration and instructions.

  127. Deanna Morehead says:

I have the crazier 8 templates from creative grids. I’ve started cutting pieces from scraps, but haven’t started piecing it yet.😊

  128. Pat White says:

Yes I’ve made several crazy quilts, always with a five sided center.

  129. Linda True says:

Connie your quilts are just amazing! Never made one like this. Think I have been missing out on some fun! Will have to give this a try. Thanks for the inspiration and instructions!

  130. I never use Batiks, but I like how your quilt looks with them. I may consider it now. I have a basket of scraps, they will definitely be put to use with this pattern. Thank you for giving it to us free of charge,

I have never made a crazy quilt. I enjoy looking at all the fabrics and varies stitches that make one.

  132. MaryEllen Wickenheiser says:

Your quilt is fabulous! I’ve never made a crazy quilt but it looks fun. Thanks for sharing.

  133. Robert Kent says:

I really like your crazy quilt and some of the ideas on how you made it. At one time I started saving pieces and scraps of satin etc fabric to make one but could not get the fancy stitches to go right, like the idea to sew a quarter inch from the seam and not on the seam line. Will give it a try. Been a long time follower of yours and also Jo Kramer’s blog. Thanks again for sharing your ideas.
    Robert Kent, from Northern Iowa.

    1. Thanks, I actually do the stitching right next to the seam and that way all the stitching goes over the 3 layers of fabric.

  134. Carrie Henry says:

I’ve never made a crazy quilt before! I have just been quilting for a year now. It looks beautiful!

  135. Vicki in MN says:

Oh those are my perfect colors for fall. I did a stack and whack years ago and it looked like a crazy quilt. Yours is just gorgeous, I can see why you had to do it in small increments with all that stitching, nice job!

  136. You made a beautiful crazy quilt and your grandson will cherish it. I have never made a crazy quilt but would make a crazy table runner with these fall colors. Like you, fall is my favorite time of year. The colors of fall and the crisp cool weather is definitely the best.

  137. Patti Levine says:

I have never made a crazy quilt but it looks beautiful in batiks! Thanks for a chance to win the fat quarters!

  138. I have never made a crazy quilt with fancy stitches but it’s on my list to do. These gorgeous fabrics would be perfect. Thanks for the giveaway.

  139. PAM GREEN says:

    Hello
I would love to win, I have the perfect quilt that I could use these on. I have many books and designs for crazy quilt. I have been keeping my lace scraps for years to use on a crazy quilt. I made a small wall hanging one years ago for my sister and included crazy pictures of her.
Thank you as always for sharing your wonderful quilts.

  140. Doreen Sherk says:

Good morning from Niagara Falls, Ont., Canada
Rusty looks so sweet and comfortable on your quilt.
I like your idea of putting the embroidery stitching on the pieces like you did. I would never have thought of that. Thanks for sharing that idea.
    Doreen

    1. Thanks Doreen, Rusty really does love posing! By adding the fancy stitching as you go, the end are caught in the seam allowances.

  141. Susan McC says:

I have not made a crazy quilt but have it on my “bucket to-do list” – I like scrappy quilts so think crazy quilts are a great way to use up bits and pieces – thank you for the opportunity to enter your gift-away😊

  142. I am a first generation quilter (that I know of), am 51 years old with 6 daughters and 6 grandbabies. I just started quilting a little over 3 years ago and have made only lap size quilts so far. So I’ve never made a crazy quilt. Most of mine have been 3 yard quilts. Thank you for the chance to enter into the giveaway

  143. Phyllis Schelling says:

I have made a lot of scrappy quilts, but never a crazy quilt. Doesn’t Accuquilt have a BOB die for that? I like the way yours looks and especially the idea of the decorative stitching. I think I’ll give it a go!

  144. Karen J Wesson says:

Yes, I love crazy quilts. I’ve made a couple using all homespun plaids. One is on my bed!

  145. Katherine Kerr says:

I have never made a crazy quilt but am now thinking about doing one. I love the quilt shown in the island essence line. The decorative stitching really adds a lot to the quilt.

  146. Mary johnson says:

Would love to win these fat quarters. I have thought about making a crazy quilt but have not as I didn’t have pattern or instructions

  147. Carol Kussart says:

I love your quilt, Connie! The colors are my favorites! I have not made a crazy quilt, but I have made a stack and whack of squares that looks sort of like one. It would be fun to make a true crazy quilt. I like how you put the decorative stitches on the pressed seam allowances.

  148. Beverly Kirk says:

Yes! I like crazy more than a log cabin and the need for exactness. Think I’ll follow your lead
