If you like decorating with autumn projects, you’ll like this fast and easy batik tablerunner. It is the perfect scrap project!
It won’t be long before the leaves start changing colors and the days will get cooler. Fall is my favorite time of the year and it is always fun to make a new quilt tablerunner for the table.
This is even a quilt project that is Sadie approved! You know I have a hard time getting her to actually look at the camera, this photo is really cute!
It is always fun to show a closeup of the simple free motion quilting that I do.
8″ x 10″ pumpkin quilt block
This is a great scrap project! I always cut up the leftovers from any quilt project right away and put them in my scrap drawers. It was so easy to pull out the bin with 2½” squares.
Here are the orange squares that I chose to use for my pumpkin block.
I was going to use scraps of neutral batiks but decided I liked the look of the background being the same color and I just happened to have enough 2½” squares for three quilt blocks.
Normally I would cut 2-7/8″ squares for the half square triangle blocks or use my 2″ finished HST AccuQuilt GO! die.. Instead I cut a template from the die.
Since I wanted to use 2½” scrap squares, I cut a template for the half square triangles from cardboard. You could easily do this by cutting a 2½” square and then draw a line 1/4″ from the diagonal for the seam allowance. Below you can see the small piece you will throw away.
Each block will use four half square triangles of orange and cream.
Cutting for One Block:
- 12 – 2½” orange squares
- 1 – 2½” brown square
- 2 – 2½” cream squares
- 2 – 1½” x 2½” cream rectangles
- 4 – 2½” half square triangles orange/cream
Would you like to make the tablerunner? Just make three pumpkin blocks. I used some yardage for the sashing around the blocks from 2½” strips.
- scraps of orange and brown
- 1/8 yard of cream for blocks
- 3/8 yard of neutral for sashing/border
Or use the same neutral for all – 1/2 yard
Cutting for Pumpkin tablerunner:
- 6 – 2½” cream squares
- 6 – 1½” x 2½” cream rectangles
- 3 – 2½” brown squares
- 36 – 2½” orange squares
- 4 – 2½” x 10½” cream pieces
- 2 – 2½” x 32½” pieces
Add batting and backing and quilt as desired.
