October Color of the Month Challenge 2026

The color for October is BROWN. I probably should have picked something like a rust to match the leaves that will be turning color soon. BROWN does make me think of Fall.

Brown Batiks

I looked through my batik stash for fabrics for my October blocks. These are my smaller pieces of brown batiks that I have. Some pieces are fat quarters, a couple might be larger and most are less than a fat quarter.

My Picks

Here are the two batiks that I chose for my quilt blocks.

Churn Dash Quilt Blocks

The first thing I did was make my Churn Dash quilt blocks. Many times I get asked about mixing batiks and regular quilt fabrics and yes, I do it all the time. The white I am using is a white premium muslin.

Many times I use the muslin on the back of my quilts and I cut up the leftovers for projects like this.

Monthly Churn Dash Quilt Blocks

Here are all of the Churn Dash quilt blocks so far. I wonder what colors I should do for the last two months. Looks like I need some cool colors.

  1. Looks like a great plan! I’m trying to finish a jelly roll but my math skills are really rusty! Might just set it aside – it’s a Christmas quilt – can’t believe I’m never made a “real” Christmas quilt only small wall hangings. Thanks for all the inspirations! Also getting the rain, luckily I live at the top of the hill. Rivulets running down the street! Thanks!

    1. Hi Joan, would you believe the Lori Holt Christmas quilt was my first big Christmas quilt? I have tons of runners and things. Rain, I know we were dry for a long time but I am so over the rain. Our grass could be bailed and Rusty gets so dirty every time he goes out. Ugh.

  2. So many pretty churn dash blocks in all the colors. I like the Morning Glory block too.
