Let’s make a Disappearing 9 patch tutorial with a little different look. The finished size is a 12-inch mini quilt.
Mini Disappearing 9 patch tutorial
Grab some fun fabrics, I had some leftover Amelia by Me and My Sister from the Worldly Lil Twister quilt that I made last fall.
I received the beautiful fabrics from Vicki and Judy at Quilting Lodge and guess what? Next Monday I am going to have another giveaway sponsored by them!
I started out making 4 – 9 patch blocks out of 2.5 inch squares. Looking at the photos you can see I used 4 of the blue prints, 4 of the tone on tone prints and 1 pink center.
Cut the block down the center. It should measure 1 inch from the seam.
Now turn and cut down the center again.
Rotate the blocks as shown and sew together.
You will have 4 Disappearing 9 patch blocks.
Arrange as shown.
Cut strips of the tone on tone 1.25 inches wide by the length of your block (I usually just cut a strip the width of my fabric).
Join 2 blocks together and then repeat for the other 2 blocks.
Sew one more strip along one side then sew the other section to it.
Here is the back of your completed block.
I did a small stipple loop quilting in the background areas. I didn’t have enough of the Amelia line of fabrics for the binding but….I had just bought some new fabrics from Me and My Sister and the color coordinated perfectly!
I have one center pink block that is a tad bit too big, oops…but when it’s up on the wall it isn’t noticeable.
This is a simple D9P or Disappearing 9 Patch but I thought it would be fun to show it using the same fabrics in each block and then combining 4 blocks.
You can see it up on my wall……..Builder Bob is installing another light in my room, love that guy!

Super cute Connie. It's funny how differently the Disappearing 9 patch can look with each one you see. What's really funny is in looking at this one on the wall those little pink squares almost look like they formed somewhat of a circular type design from a distance. It could be the angle too but that's the first thing I noticed. I love Amelia fabrics and I also noticed how the Me and My Sister fabric lines seem to play nice with each other. I love that actually with their fabrics plus the great colors they use.

Would you do me a favor and stop posting such great stuff? Now I'm gunna have to try this one! Might be my new fav, and I love the colors you picked.
Did I miss a post on how you're keeping stuff up on your design wall? Did you cover a whole wall with flannel or something? Looks way cool, however you did it.
Melissa @ Sew BitterSweet Designs
Adorable! I wouldn't have known it was a disappearing 9 patch unless I spent sometime staring at it really trying to figure out what it was. Very cute!

Cute wallhanging and very nice tutorial. I would recognize it as a D9P, but I made a child's quilt using very similar colors. No sashing in the one I made.
