A couple days ago I shared a tutorial for the Three by Three 9 patch quilt block, did you have a chance to make one? Here is what I decided to make with my block. This is a great beginner project!
Three by Three Easy to make Table Topper
I had just enough of the medium pink batik from Island Batik to get three more of the 2½” x 6½” strips so I could add three more sections to my 18″ x 18″ quilt block. Tutorial for the Three by Three block.
I was able to make a small table topper or table runner.
18″ x 24″
I added a layer of Hobbs Heirloom batting, a backing fabric and then quilted it using a loopy organic free motion on the light pink sections.
Loopy organic – meaning that I did free-hand wiggle squiggles and didn’t worry about it being perfect.
The piecing and quilting was done on my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine and I used Aurifil thread for the entire quilt project.
As usual, I sewed my binding on using my machine binding tutorial.
I am very lucky that my old sewing machine isn’t picky about what kind of thread I use in it. As long as I make to clean out the lint, oil the sewing machine and use the correct size needle for the thread I can use any thread. I even have old Coats & Clark thread that I use if I need the right color.
- ¼ yard light pink batik for blocks and binding
- Fat quarter or ¼ yard medium pink batik for blocks
- Fat quarter or ¼” dark pink batik for blocks
- Backing 20″ x 26″
- One layer of Hobbs Heirloom batting
- Thread – Aurifil thread
I had enough of the dark pink and light pink to make another quilt project that I’ll share soon!
Valentine’s Day is almost here and I have been receiving emails from some of you telling me that you have been making the little fabric baskets from my tutorials. I thought I would share this photo of the baskets on my new Three by Three table topper!
