Another month has flown by and the days are getting shorter. I want to share the beautiful tablerunner I made for my September Starstruck project as an Island Batik ambassador. Having a new challenge every month keeps me on my toes!
Island Batik Starstruck Tablerunner
13″ x 36″
Last month I made a large quilt and I still haven’t finished the pattern, sorry. It has been a crazy month here as we have been helping my daughter find a new home.
This was a beautiful batik that was included in my first Ambassador box for 2018. It was actually a 5″ strip by the width of the fabric and I was able to cut 3 of the colorful stars out of it. The background is a Island Batik’s cream neutral.
This photo really shows the free motion quilting on the batik star tablerunner.
It is also fun to show the sunlight through the tablerunner.
In my stash of Island Batik fabrics, I found a blue that was a perfect match that I could use for my binding. I always sew my binding on my quilted projects by machine and I am very happy with the way they look.
I normally cut my binding 2½” wide, press it in half and sew it to the front of my quilt, then fold it over to the back. I use Wonder Clips to help hold the binding in place after I have once again pressed the binding.
The star quilt blocks are 9 inch blocks that were made using the AccuQuilt Qube 9 inch Angles dies. The Triangle in a Square block is a favorite of mine and did you know that AccuQuilt now has the Qube Angles dies in 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12 inch sizes!
Another great way to make the Triangle in a Square block is with the Tri-Rec Templates which aren’t very expensive. There are very good instructions included with the templates or you might want to read this easy to follow Triangle in a Square tutorial.
If you would like to make the Starstruck tablerunner, make 9 inch blocks and then cut your background fabrics the following sizes. I like to cut my blocks larger than I need and then trim the tablerunner after I have sewn it together.
Angled Tablerunner:
- two 13 inch squares and then cut diagonally.
Rectangle Tablerunner:
- two 13 inch squares and then cut diagonally.
- two 6½ inch squares and then cut diagonally.

Lovely Fall Stars Table Runner. Island Batik fabrics are so full of color and delight. Your vintage Singer stipple quilting is perfect for all the beige background. Falling into Autumn Bliss…<3
