Today I am sharing a precious little applique baby quilt designed with the new AccuQuilt GO! 12″ Qube Companion Corners set and the AccuQuilt GO!  Flower Bunch applique die.

If you don’t have the AccuQuilt die cutter and dies you will still be able to make this following my tutorial and free flower applique templates.

The new 12″ Qube Companion Corners set makes it fast and easy to create a quilt project and a month or two ago I shared the tutorial for this on AccuQuilt’s blog. Let’s get started on this applique baby quilt.

GO! Fabric Cutter:

GO! Big Electric (55500)

GO! Cutting Dies:

  • GO! 12″ Qube Set (55778)
  • GO! 12″ Qube Companion Corners Set (55787)
  • GO! Flower Bunch (55332)
  • GO! 2 1/2″ Strip Cutter (55017)

Fabric:

  • Layer cake, fat quarters or scraps of prints
  • 1 yard white fabric
  • 1/2 yard Heat n Bond Lite
  • 1 1/2 yard fabric for backing and binding
  • Batting

Directions:

White Fabric

Cut two 7″ WOF strips – sub-cut 10 – 6 1/2″ squares using die (55000) for the applique blocks.
Cut two 5½” WOF strips – sub-cut 40 HSTs using the GO! Companions Corners 1 1/2″ finished HSTs (55818) die.

Prints

Cut 2 each of the corner pieces in 20 different prints. (the fabrics I used were 5″ x 10″ rectangles from a layer cake) using the Go! Qube Companion Bowtie die (55772).

Cut 10 sets of a flower, circle center and two leaves in assorted prints using the Flower Bunch die (55332).

Apply Heat n Bond Lite to the back of your scraps following the directions on the package before running the fabric through your AccuQuilt GO! cutter.  I used a blanket stitch to applique the flowers.

Sew using a 1/4″ seam allowance throughout.

Sew a half square triangle to each of the Bowtie corners. Layout your corner pieces as shown below. Use two different prints for each block.

I like to sew 4 blocks together for a larger block and then sew 2 of them together but you can also sew rows of 4 blocks together for your baby quilt.

I forgot to take a picture of my appliqued floral baby quilt before I quilted it. As I mentioned, you can look at the photo to see that there are 2 of the appliqued floral blocks and 2 of the pieced corner blocks in each row. There are 5 rows in my 24″ x 30″ quilt.

Add your batting and backing and quilt as desired. Use the 2 1/2″ strip cutter die to cut your binding.Floral applique baby quilt on a swing

I hope you have enjoyed the Applique Play Baby Quilt and you could easily make this into any size quilt you would like just by adding more blocks.

If you would like to make the Applique Flowers Baby Quilt and don’t have the AccuQuilt dies follow these directions and also download the free templates.

  • Cut 40 – 3½” squares of prints for the 4 square blocks
  • Cut 40 – 2″ squares of white for the corners
  • Cut 10 – 6½” squares of white for the applique blocks
  • Use the templates to cut out 10 flowers and 20 leaves

Place a 2″ white square on each of the 3½” prints, sew a seam and trim.

I so very much admire this sweet baby quilt. It is pulling at me to make and I am anxious to get started.. I do not have the AccuQuilt Die Cutter so was excited to see you included directions for the quilt. I have gone over the information several times and simply cannot find a link for the applique templates. Can you please help me? So sorry to impose on your time but so anxious to make this. Thank you in advance for this lovely project and your time as well as assistance.

        Dear Connie,
Thank you for the quick response to my request for help. I have been on your newsletter list for some time. I tried to sign up again just to be sure I wasn’t receiving something else that was not the newsletter and got a message that I was already on the newsletter mailing list. I still cannot find a way to get the PDF and templates of the tutorial. I am not computer savvy and feel I must not understand what I need to do.. Thanks again for any help and please forgive the annoyance.

Sweet and retro baby quilt here and thank you for your tutorial. It is not your usual fabric style so I thought it might be one of your Linky participants. You surprised me with this lovely quilt.

Hello Connie; This is such a sweet lovely Baby Quilt that you have made! I adore how you created the big blocks Bow Tie Die you were able to create these cute adorable different blocks! Plus, adding these cute flowers in the other blocks was a great choice to add that extra bit of softness. Another spectacular accomplishment in your pattern creating! It is definitely on my to do list. Thank you also for adding the additional measurements and printable pieces for those of us who do not have the dies needed or any dies at all! It truly is a valuable treasure for us!!!! I also wanted to ask you if you entered the AccuQuilt block design contest this year? I was looking for something and saw the information, I went and looked and voted but did not see your name anywhere, but could have also missed it. So am just very curious. Thank you again for sharing another great pattern!! Have a fantastic day!
