Stash Statement – Make the most of your fabrics with easy improv quilts!
Welcome to the first day of the blog hop for Kelly Young’s new book called Stash Statement. The front cover is eye-catching and the photos in the book……beautiful! Kelly blogs at My Quilt Infatuation, I have known her for several years and her blog is well worth checking out!
Do you have quilt scraps leftover from past quilt projects? I can’t stand to throw out my scraps and I usually try and cut them up into several different sizes right away and then store them in containers by color.
Kelly really does a wonderful job of explaining how to create fabric from your quilt scraps and then turn it into beautiful blocks.
When I first saw the Grand Bazaar quilt I thought “oh my gosh will that be a lot of work and time” but once I read Kelly’s section on Tips & Techniques I realized how easy it would be to make any of the quilts in her book and I couldn’t wait to start on my blocks!
This is just a little peek at the magic Kelly teaches to work with the fabrics in my stash for the blocks.
Quilting always makes such a difference and adds so much to a quilt. I made a smaller version of the Grand Bazaar quilt that will be a baby quilt.
I used a wool/cotton batting from Hobbs and a fairly large meandering on my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine. I pieced and quilted it with white Aurifil thread and used a 80/20 Schmetz needle.
It was really a lot of fun making this quilt and I have a feeling when my daughter sees it she’ll want a full size one! Many times I work with batiks…..can you imagine how beautiful the Grand Bazaar would be in batiks!I even had the Grand Bazaar stash quilt checked out by little Sadie! I wonder what she was thinking!
Kelly’s book Stash Statement has 12 beautiful quilt patterns in it and you’ll get to see all of them made up by other quilters during the blog hop.
