Welcome to another Linky Tuesday at Freemotion by the River!
Share your quilts, pictures, recipes or other posts with everyone!
What I love most about blogging is to be able to do a search and find just about anything that I have posted on my blog. The other day I pulled out the Mountain Reflections quilt that I started in January. This was a Quilting Project Kit that I bought from Craftsy.
There was enough fabric to make the quilt….but not enough if a mistake was made so I had to be very careful and it also took me a bit to get back into the rhythm of putting it together.
I actually did cut 2 blocks the wrong way so I had to change the color arrangement in order to be able to use them. Of course this made the pattern a challenge since my block colors were a little different than the pattern.
Thank goodness I had a large design wall to work on! I actually finished piecing the quilt top late last night. I decided if I put it away again…..I might never get it back out. Have you ever made a Delectable Mountain quilt?
Did you happen to see the Delectable Mountain quilt project that Karla from My Sewful Retirement linked up last week?
Gail from Quilt Gail shared some beautiful placemats and a hexagon hot pad made with the back fabric brought to the front. My neighbor just showed me some baby blankets she was making using this same technique! Gail shares a link to a video that does a great job of showing how to make the mitered corners. We use place-mats at every meal and just the other day Builder Bob asked when we were getting new ones, I think these would be perfect!

Never made one, and yours is gorgeous!
Funny that you chose today to display this. I just made a couple of blocks for my guild’s bingo quilt and I DID cut it the wrong way … so I had to make more to correct the problem. We were directed to the Quiltville site for directions and I followed them. However, when I realized the error I went back and that time I pulled the PDF version which included the essential “right sides together” in the cutting instructions. That isn’t mentioned in the on-screen instructions and it isn’t glaringly apparent in the screen display. At least it wasn’t to me. lol Not sure I could be trusted with one that requires such precise placement as yours.
I just finished the top for a variation of Delectable Mountains. I off-set each row, so it created more of a chevron instead of a reflection. Love the simplicity of the blocks. But it would be very tricky getting the color placement right like on yours. I love the look, but you are right about needing to lay it out on a design wall.
I love the Delectable Mountain quilts. I did a scrappy one from old shirts a few years ago and it is still one of my favorites. You have shown two really nice examples here.
