Skinny Blue Batik Tablerunner Tutorial

They can be fast and easy to make or you can try out an intricate quilt design on a small project to make sure you like it before making a large quilt.
Quilt As You Go Skinny Tablerunner Tutorial
This is my skinny blue batik table runner was created because I got carried away sewing the strips together and ended up not doing a QAYG style table runner.
Instead, I pieced all of the strips together, added a backing and batting and quilted it.

Size 10″ x 43″
Once again I am using some of my batik stash that I have received from Island Batik as an Ambassador for them.
This was a small bundle of 2-inch strips that got lost in my stash.
I know winter is almost over but wouldn’t this make a beautiful batik table runner next year for Christmas?
All of the strips were 10 inches long so that was the size I decided to make my skinny blue batik table runner. I also had a long skinny piece of blue batik leftover from the back of my Diamond Maze quilt that I was able to use for this project.
Do you have a small table that would look neat with a quilted table runner on it? Decide how wide and long you want it and then make a fast and easy QAYG table runner or just make a long piece of stitched fabric strips as I did.
Skinny Blue Batik Tablerunner
Materials needed:
- 32 – 2″ x 10″ batik strips
- backing – 12″ x WOF
- batting – 12″ x 44″
- 1/4 yd batik for the binding
- Use a 1/4″ seam allowance.
- Sew your strips together changing direction every other strip. This helps to prevent your strips from bowing.
- Trim to the size you desire, add batting and backing.
- Quilt and add the binding.

This is made just like my Skinny Summer Table Runner and I’ll use this one on top of the same cabinet in the winter. The Skinny Summer table runner was made with 1½” strips but I believe I did use the QAYG method for it.

Hello Connie; This is a beautiful Table Runner. One that I know my Father would have really enjoyed having on his dresser. Having been from Wyoming, we all loved to take the day and go spend it at the Oregon Coast. All of these blues work perfectly for that effect or for other effects also like a wide variety of flower colors. Thank you for sharing this great project! I will have to put it on my list!
