I just received my first Island Batik ambassador box the other day and there were 5 beautiful fat quarters of fabric that could be used to make a Galentine’s Day mug rug or postcard. I had some batiks leftover from other Island Batik projects that I made last year and I went ahead and made up my little Galentine’s Day mug rug and tutorial early. I have links below for the other quilt projects I made with the Cherry Berry collection.

This is our first project to share as a Island Batik Ambassador this year. It is going to be so much fun to see all of the beautiful Galentine’s Day mug rugs and postcards!

I added a 3″ x 6 1/2″ piece of neutral to the left side where my coffee or wine will go. I didn’t take a photo but I also added a 2″ strip to the right side.Galentine's Day Mug rug tutorial is perfect for Valentines Day too #islandbatikambassador #islandbatik #iheartislandbatik #happygalentinesday #happyvalentinesday #galentinesday #valentinesday

I used my Aurifil threads for my free-motion quilting that I do on my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine. I’m getting low on a couple colors. The neutral I used for the background is actually a very light pink #2405. The orange spools are cotton 50WT and the pink is a cotton 40WT. Both weights of thread worked great for my quilting.

After the quilting I trimmed my Galentine’s Day mug rug to 6 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ and added my binding. Mug rugs can be any size.Galentine's Day Mug rug tutorial is perfect for Valentines Day too #islandbatikambassador #islandbatik #iheartislandbatik #happygalentinesday #happyvalentinesday #galentinesday #valentinesday

This is the background I used for my Galentine’s Day mug rug, it is the same one I used on my mug rug last year. Last year I used it to make a cute little thread basket for my Aurifil threads.

This little Galentine’s Day mug rug is also perfect for Valentine’s Day. I’ll use the new batiks for another project.

The very first quilt pattern I ever saved was from 1 of the ladies’s magazines in the 80’s and was this pattern. Love it! I may make a name tag out of this block for guild meetings. Thank you!

  10. Connie–this is so pretty! Your thread choices had me salivating! Of course, you had me first at batiks, next at Aurifil, and lastly at the “almost” bride bouquet block–one of my favorite blocks but not super easy to construct.

  11. So sweet. Is it ok to put the coffee next to the wine…. or do I need to make two of these? 😉 xx

  12. That is lovely and would make a great Galentine’s gift.

  13. Very cute, Connie. Thanks for the tute.

  14. You caught my eye with Galentine’s Day for sure. I thought you had misspelled it. Love the mug rug and the new holiday. Although it’s not so new when I see you celebrated it last year too. I missed it, but I’m all caught up now.
