On our recent trip to Minnesota we stopped at several quilt shops…..I’m sure that doesn’t surprise you! I think it was in the last store that I saw a beautiful 60 degree triangle quilt and when I found the pattern it was no surprise to see that it was Boomerang from Jaybird Quilts. Julie Herman writes patterns that are very easy to follow and I figured since I already had the ruler…..I’d buy the pattern.I have been in the mood to just do some piecing and I decided that it was time to use this beautiful bundle of fat quarters that I had from 3 Sisters by Moda called Favorites 2014 that I won some time ago. There are 40….yes….40 fat quarters in this bundle!
I did a web search and found that Shabby Fabrics still has yardage from this collection. I’m leaving a note here so I can find the link myself when I finish this quilt and need fabric for binding and a backing. If nothing else, many times if you buy a newer collection from a designer such at 3 Sisters by Moda, you will find something similar that will work.
When I pulled out the fabrics and pattern I realized I didn’t have the Super SideKick ruler, (Jaybirds Quilts always includes a template) I have the Lazy Angle which looks similar. Darn! Then I got thinking about the pattern being made of 60 degree equilateral triangles and was sure I had one…or two of those.
It worked great and the blocks were easy to make. Here is the Boomerang pattern.
I started putting two of each fat quarter on my design wall just as incentive to keep working on it. I ended up getting 10 blocks from each set of two fat quarters.
Something I try and do all of the time anymore is to cut up my scraps into the sizes I like to keep right away.
I am getting some beautiful additions to add to my 2″ and 2 1/2″ square scraps. My goal this week is to get all of the blocks made, I think I have 10 fat quarters left to cut up and make into 60 degree equilateral triangles.
