Flannel Quilt As You Go Blocks
Have you ever made a QAYG quilt? I’ll be working on one in the coming months as I make flannel Quilt As You Go blocks. Do you remember the flannel scraps that I cut into 2 different size blocks a couple months ago? I have been piecing them together and made a small quilt with blue flannel sashes that would be perfect for a lap quilt or crib quilt. I haven’t quilted it yet but when it was on the floor little Tasha was happy to sit on it and get her picture taken. This is the last week that she will be here with me.Here is a better photo of what the quilt will look like.
The Fat Quarter Shop is having a great sale right now!
It is 20% off sitewide, excluding and items already on sale. Make sure you use the PROMO CODE when you checkout to get the discount. This would be a great time to order Creative Grid templates, Aurifil thread, patterns and of course fabric!
I also ordered one more set of the Ikea basket shelves with 4 baskets. With the addition of the wheels they are a nice height for a ironing surface. I’m going to have to get Builder Bob to cut me a longer board that is a little bit wider. It wasn’t long ago that I showed this setup in my quilt studio before the addition of another set of shelves.
I have tons and tons of the flannel scrap blocks so I thought I would make a flannel quilt just for us. Our bed is a king size and wouldn’t a flannel quilt be wonderful in the winter? That should give me plenty of time to get it finished.
I decided to do a Quilt As You Go design since it will be king size and a lot of weight and bulk on my domestic sewing machine. I don’t want a ton of blocks to piece together after quilting so the sections are about 27″ in square.
I cut my small blocks 2 .75″ and the large blocks 5″. I sewed 4 small blocks together and then added a large block to one side. The rows are made of 3 large and 3 small blocks. I am going to use Hobbs 80/20 batting and flannel on the back. I want this to be puffy so I’ll do a large stipple quilting on the blocks.
I have 4 of the 27 inch blocks ready to quilt, this will be a perfect project to work on in between other quilts.
