I am taking part in a QAL that Fat Quarter Shop is sharing today on the Jolly Jabber using the neat Filigree quilt pattern which is a free quilt pattern.Filigree Free Quilt Pattern from Fat Quarter ShopI could choose any Art Gallery Fabrics collection for my quilt, the beautiful fabrics I chose was the Art Gallery Fabrics collection called Lavish and Art Gallery Fabrics sent them to me. This was the first time I have ever used their fabrics and I am really impressed with them! AGF uses Pima cotton and the thread count is very 200 and reminds me of batiks.

The fabric collection was WAY out of my comfort zone…….sometimes it is fun to push yourself to try something new and find out you like it! I carefully worked my way through the pattern deciding how I want to mix the prints.

Then it was time to complete the blocks – aren’t they wild!

Perfect blocks!

Next it was time to arrange the blocks on my design wall so I made sure I sewed them together correctly.

I decided I wanted to make the quilt a little bigger so I added a 5″ border making my quilt 64″ x 64.

Since I used some of my backing fabric for the borders, I took the leftover fabrics from the blocks and made a strip piece for my backing. I like it!Filigree Back of Quilt

I used Hobbs 80/20 batting and Aurifil thread. Once again I tried to do big free motion quilting so the quilt would be a little fluffy. It was very, very easy to quilt the AGF fabrics on my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine.

I can’t wait to wash the quilt and see how it looks. I always take my photos before washing the quilt. Our weather has been beautiful and it was fun to take pictures down by the river.

I had enough fabric left to make one of my fabric baskets, I actually showed in a earlier post about photographing your quilt projects.Art Gallery Fabrics BasketI even took the Filigree quilt to the park but it was around noon and not the best time to take photos.

  1. This is my favorite of all the Filigree quilts in the sew-a-long. I absolutely loved the way you used color, and that dotty fabric just makes this sing! Thanks for the eye candy!

    1. Thanks Pam, it was fun to work with these beautiful fabrics!

  2. Wow! I never would have chosen you as the one who made this quilt Connie! A ‘little’ out of your comfort zone? Yea, a bit I’d say. LOL It looks great.

    1. I know Vicki, it is surprising that I made this LOL!

You did an awesome job working those fabrics into that design. That’s hard to do if you have the fabrics first and have to decide which would look good where. Great job, beautiful project!

  4. I don’t think I would have selected such an array of patterned fabrics for a quilt… Kudos to you for making a gorgeous quilt! Amazing how cutting fabrics into small pieces and sewing them all together differently makes quite a different look. Gorgeous!

    1. This was really, really out of my comfort zone and surprisingly…….I like it!

  5. uhh what a nice quilt and fun to see a non-batik quilt 😉

  6. I love the fabrics you used in your quilt, it turned out very pretty!

    1. Thanks Missy, it was fun to do something different!

  7. What a pretty quilt. I love the colors and patterns. Yes Art Gallery fabrics are wonderful, the feel, the handling, the silkiness. Just great.

    1. Thanks Mary and you’re right, the fabrics feel wonderful!

  8. I didn’t realize anybody was using pima cotton for their prints. I remember the Robert Kaufman prints from the 1990s and how nice they were. Your quilt is really nice.

    1. I remember them also Wanda and was really surprised to see that AGF is using them.

Hello Connie! I adore the quilt that you created with these gorgeous fabrics! I have so many UFO’s that I am trying to get done this year and yet I continue to see these gorgeous new fabric lines in a beautiful quilt pattern. Who can resist? No, not I….so off I go to print out the pattern. Thank you for sharing and by the way, I love your pictures…yet, the one at the park really is my favorite. I think the shadows add a brilliant touch to the green shades in the quilt and really make you stop and look more closely at the whole of the design and fabrics. Just my thoughts. Have a great day.

    1. Thanks so much Brenda, it is a neat pattern and was fun to make. I’m so glad you liked the photo of the quilt in the park! I happen to like shadows on a quilt too!

  10. Beautiful quilt – design and fabrics. Very interesting about the thread count for AGF Fabrics. I was just thinking that quilt cotton is getting thinner and thinner, more easily unravels, as I’m working with a variety of brands as I’m piecing a scrappy quilt that just seems to be shedding at the seams. You’ve inspired me to try AGF. Thanks.

    1. I was very surprised also Darlene as I have noticed the same thing as you. The Art Gallery Fabrics really feel soft too!

  11. Thanks Mary, it was a challenge as I wasn’t sure how the fabrics I picked out would work……I love it!

  12. That looks really nice and perfect in that beautiful spring weather. That is a fun looking pattern.

    1. Thanks Mary it was fun to make and…..not be exactly sure how it was going to look!
