The beautiful Sea Canyon Table Runner is a new table runner that I finished and gifted to a sweet friend. It looks perfect in her living room.

I used three 9-inch blocks and then added a sashing and a border. This would be perfect for any time of year.

Piece the table runner

Cut (2) 2½-inch x 9½-inch rectangles for the sashing and add them between the blocks.

Add the border

  • Cream – cut (2) 2½-inch x 31½-inch pieces, add to the top and bottom
  • Cream – cut (2) 2½-inch x 13½-inch pieces, add to the sides

Quilt the beautiful Sea Canyon table runner as desired

Add your backing and batting and quilt as desired.

I drew a spine all the way around the table runner and then did some free-motion feathers in the border. I used an Aurifil thread in a color that matched the fabric I used for the binding and a Schmetz 80/20 needle.

Here is a closeup of the feather quilting. I really need to start doing more of it because once I get going…..I really enjoy doing it.

Cut your binding strips 2½-inch x the width of your fabrics and use my easy machine binding tutorial to add it.

The table runner was made using a collection from Island Batik called Sea Canyon. I doubt that you can find the fabrics anymore but this would be perfect for Anthology batiks like these.

I just used a good-quality permanent press muslin on the back so I can save my batiks for my quilt tops. I do this a lot to cut down on the cost of my quilt projects.

Do you like my little pelican? He was a gift from the cutest little neighbor boy when we lived at the river house.

  7. Lovely table runner, Connie, made me think of the sea glass we find on the beaches here on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. This is one I would love to make but will probably make it one or two squares bigger. I look forward to future updates on your 4 legged kids🥰🇨🇦.

  11. This looks like an easy and pretty table runner to do. I am happy to hear Rusty is improving. Thanks for all your great patterns.

  12. Perfect size for my main (kitchen) table. Don’t think I even go in the dining room any more!
Love this and I was thinking of all the ways I can use it – I might even try a tree skirt with these blocks.

  13. Oh wonderful as I save all your patterns and have made quite a few runners of yours. Love the jewel looking tones of that purple and green batik. I think 9have some of both. Just don’t have the white background batik. Guess I’ll have to invest in some. I also noticed your leaf quilting pattern. So perfect for this quilt. Thank you definitely now on my to do list.

  14. This is so striking. I love that photo of it with the pelican. Do you miss living by the river? Except for flooding of course.

  15. Lindos seus trabalhos. Grata por compartilhar.
São fontes de alegria e inspiração.
    Obrigada! Bjs.

  18. Beautiful ! Such great colors and design ! The stitching is another work of Art too!

Thank you for taking such great care of your dog. He certainly looks happy.

  19. The colors are so regal! Love the quilting! Your feathers are perfect! I’m trying to get the feather thing – but “skating backward” throws me. Practice right? Doing outline quilting on a Safari Panel quilt now. Easy, like a coloring book and stipple to fill in the blank spots. Good to see Mr. M and his new friend. Thank you for the best ideas!

  20. Nancy McC says:

Love the colors on this runner. You did a great job on the feathers in the border. I love feathers! Thank you for sharing.

  21. Robyn Lidstone says:

Exquisite work, Connie. I love the feathered free motion border – and the inner free motion quilting as well.
I don’t know when I’ll be able to master free motion quilting. What alternative would suit this design? This Sea Canyon Table Runner is too nice not to make.
The Board Game Quilt would be too challenging for a beginner like me. I need a lot of experience wtih smaller projects.

How can I save this to Pinterest to make after summer?

  23. That is really pretty! I especially like it paired with the other block in Board Game.
