I’m taking part in the Jolly Bar Book – Vol 1 QAL with Fat Quarter Shop.I recently received this fun book called The Jolly Bar Book Vol. 1 from Fat Quarter Shop and there are 20 cute baby quilts in this book that are made with only one Jolly Bar.

Birds Eye View baby quilt and a Tin

Not sure what a Jolly Bar is? It is a precut collection that is 5″ x 10″.

Fat Quarter Shop has all kinds of Jolly Bars, I chose the Brighten Up! precut from Me & My Sister Designs.

Jolly Bar Book and fabrics

I used white muslin for my additional 40 squares and picked the pattern Bird’s Eye View for the quilt I wanted to make.

It took no time at all to make the quilt and each pattern in the book is shown in full color.

I also used a cotton/poly batting.

Isn’t this the cutest little tin! There are 6 different colors and you can find them at the Fat Quarter Shop.

Do you have some Layer Cakes sitting around? This would be perfect for the patterns in the book. I think when I make another one of the quilts I might do that as I’m not crazy about using some of the lighter colored fabrics along with my solid fabric.

I did a large free motion quilting swirl on it so the quilt would stay nice and soft.

Jolly Bar Leftovers

I didn’t have much in the way of scraps when I was finished with the Bird’s Eye View quilt.

I used my Creative Grids ruler to square up some 3 ½” half square triangles.  I will use them for another project as I never want to waste any of the cute fabrics from Me & My Sister Designs.

Be sure and visit the Jolly Jabber and all of the other blogs that are showing quilts made with the The Jolly Bar Book Vol. 1.

Your Quilt is fun & happy! Perfect for a lil; one..or a throw for young girl!! Love it!

  3. I’m embarrassed to say, I’ve never heard of a Jolly Bar. Moda comes up with the most interesting fabrics and precuts. I think I’ll look for one.

  4. That is beautiful. Love the fabrics you used. The tin is pretty cute too.

  5. Jolly good quilt and great fabrics used. I’m off to hop…

  6. Very pretty quilt! I just love those fabrics. It looks so soft and cuddly. Great job!

  7. As usual Connie, your little quilt is too cute. I like the way you arranged the colors. Since many of us need to sew up a little baby quilt at a literal moments notice, this is a great example of using simple blocks with great color combinations to achieve a really perfect little quilt.

  8. Your quilt is so sweet. I like to relax and make large piece blocks between quilt projects that require tedious piecing. I would definitely save and use the HSTS later. Looks like a fun project book for our young quilters, too.

  9. Cute quilt, Connie. I guess Jolly Bars are to Layer Cakes are like Fat Eighths to Fat Quarters. 😀

  10. I won a jolly bar package from the Fat Quarter Shop and have not had the opportunity to use it yet. But seeing the quilts that all of you on the blog hop have created has been a great help! I really think the fabrics and pattern that you chose are fabulous together, plus making sure and use every bit of fabric as possible right at the time is an excellent way of handling the stash from not stacking up! I love half square triangles and scrap quilts so this is a great solution! Thank you so much for sharing and have a fantastic creative day!

  11. I love that you hold your leftovers in a place of esteem too. What a cute tin! I ended up using a Layer Cake for my Autumn Stars quilt since that’s what I had available. It worked just fine to cut a layer cake down the middle. You could even double the size of a quilt if you wanted, or pull out pieces that don’t contrast as well, as you suggested. I was thinking what a happy line of fabric you picked, and then saw the title of the collection. I must have been on the right track with my perception.

  12. Really cute! I still need 2 more baby girl quilts and I have that fabric in a layer cake. Might have to check out the book.
