Baby quilt on a benchEarly this month I shared a UFO that I had and hoped to get quilted this month. I’m tickled to say it is DONE!

The backing is a pretty pink fabric, it look brighter than in the picture. I originally had a peach fabric picked but found out that the baby will be a girl so……pink is perfect.Baby quilt on a bench

I used scraps of batiks from past Island Batik projects and a cotton print for the background. Many times I like to mix batiks and regular quilt fabrics.

I have a tutorial for this same block in a bigger size on my blog.Twirling Windmills by the Sea Shore Quilt Tutorial

I linked up my August UFO with Red Letter Quilts which gave me that extra little push to get it finished.

Linking up with Red Letter Quilts – be sure and see who else finished their UFO projects!

We have seen a few riverboats lately. This beautiful boat is the Queen of the Mississippi. Queen of the Mississippi

It would be so much fun to take a trip on a big boat like this. There was a storm coming the day this riverboat went by.

  1. Beautiful pops of colour on your quilt, Connie! The photos of the river boat are wonderful. The stormy sky sure looks very dramatic.

  5. Beautiful baby quilt. I thought of you on Friday morning as we drove through your area and crossed the Mississippi River. I was trying to imagine what it must be like to live next to that river.

  6. There is one lucky baby girl who is going to have a beautiful quilt to treasure! I have several smaller cuts of batiks and this would be a great way to use them. I like how they really pop against the light background! Doesn’t it feel good to finish a lingering UFO?

  7. What a fun finish Connie, simple yet packed with motion.

I have never seen a river boat like those, but I stayed at the Colorado Belle in Laughlin one time, lol! The Queen looks incredible, what a treat to watch these pass!

  9. What a cute UFO finish! My Mother-in-Law took several Mississippi river boat tours. I think her favorite was the Delta Queen. How neat that you get to see them passing by!

  10. That quilt is really cute. You are such a master of stipple quilting. I can never really believe you do it on those tiny sewing machines. The riverboats are really impressive. I had a friend whose bucket list included taking a trip on one of those. I do think it looks like it could be fun.

  11. Beautiful quilt finish! I completed my August OMG–table runners that had been incomplete for 2 years. This has gotten several UFOS off my list. The riverboat photos are wonderful, and I like the “antique ” effect.

My in-laws did that river boat trip from New Orleans to Minnesota(?) one year and LOVED it. Maybe someday……. I’ll wave as we pass. 😉
