Summer Flowers is a 44″ x 60″ inch quilt that combines string piecing and flower applique.
Yesterday was another beautiful day and I spent most of it power washing our deck. My plan is to actually get it sealed this summer. That was supposed to happen last year…..and didn’t. I have the front all done and one-third of the huge deck facing the river.
After I finished that I remembered I wanted to take a couple of new photos of my Summer Flowers pattern before it gets shipped off Monday.
I was also busy getting a bunch of patterns ready to send off too. My Scattered quilt is also doing a little traveling.
I really enjoy making applique flowers out of batik fabrics. The fabrics are always so beautiful and vibrant.
There are 8 different full size flowers in my pattern. Here is a pink flower.
Here is another beautiful flower block.

The fabrics are batiks from Island Batik called the Flower Fields collection. I also used the leftover batik scraps to make a skinny tablerunner and have a tutorial for it.
I did raw-edge applique and actually did free-motion quilting for my applique. Aurifil thread is perfect for the applique.

I asked if others used placemats and it was interesting to see that about half of you do and the other half don’t.
I have always had a oak table so……it is necessary to use placemats to protect the wood. That is why you will always see me making them.

Congratulations to Happy Cottage Quilter. Island Batik fabrics are so beautiful and I love your Happy Flowers. The flower block really is enhanced by your neutrals strip background. Lovely quilting…
Love your Summer Flowers quilt. Those string blocks are so much fun to make, and do they look awesome!
Great quilt and I adore the fabric you've used for the setting triangles and border. Just my colour palette
Congrats to Happy Cottage Quilter.
Your quilt is lovely.
A very summery quilt and I love the layout of the blocks.
Beautiful quilt with all the summery flowers Connie.
So cheery! Lovely job!
What a lovely pattern! I love flower quilts–this one is great! I also love making placemats as gifts but don't use them much. I often fill plates for my husband and myself, and we eat in front of the tv–no seconds that way! LOL
You are so talented Connie! The "Summer Flowers" quilt is so bright and cheery! Love how you incorporated string piecing in the backgrounds too!
I lov eyour SUmmer Flowers finish!! You have such a great eye with colors!

Thanks so much! And I love the applique flowers.
Thanks for reminding me of why I've been making neutral string blocks! I have some Edyta Sitar pre-cut flowers that I can put on a few.
Connie, that is so pretty. I really like how you use string piecing to create the background block. It adds a lot to the look.

I love how bright and pretty the flowers look on the quilt.
I use the placemats because of our oak table too.
