Quilt Studio Room Update

So…..have you been wondering how my new room is coming along??? This week we spent priming and painting. The walls are OSB and it took two coats of primer and then one coat of paint to cover everything. It took 3 days as we wanted it to be dry….plus our bodies needed a break after one coat. Neither one of us likes to paint. This wall will have shelves to hold containers of fabric, quilts and….I’m not sure what else yet.

Right now there are only 3 lights in the room, when it is done there will be 10….the older I get…the more light I want. Notice the electrical box in the first photo…..Builder Bob built a wooden cover and can lift off if we need to get at the panel. A lot of people asked about the window. We had to hire someone to cut the hole in the concrete, then Builder Bob measured it and ordered custom windows to fit. They are low E and argon filled so my fabric won’t fade. He did all the installation and built the window frame. The cost ended up being a little higher than we thought…..almost $1,000. Having windows and light….priceless!

The next thing on the list is the ceiling and he figures that will take 2 weeks minimum. We have also decided to paint the floor so it may be February before I get to move in. I can’t wait!! The table in the photo below will be my new cutting table. It is too tall right now, the top will come off and the legs will be shortened.

I almost forgot to show you this! When you come into the room there is a wall that will be perfect for all of my rulers and templates. Builder Bob already had a piece of pegboard and he cut in in half so I have a 4 x 4 section and he will have one for his room. I bet I put a LOT more stuff on mine!

Looks like it's coming along and you should be in before you know it. I know the feeling of needing more light as we get a tad older. I know one of these years I'm going to need a high powered spotlight. lol Love the new fabric that's coming out and can't wait to see what you create from it.

This is sew exciting! You'll be in it before you know it. Too bad it always takes so much prep work to make things like we want them. But it will be sew worth the effort. Looking forward to the 'move in' pics!

  14. Looks great Connie. I bet you will not only have more hanging on the pegboard in your room, but he may need to give his up since I bet you will fill that first one up very quickly. LOL

Painting the floor, depending on color may really brighten up your room, but will you be rolling things across the room like a chair or anything that may scratch the floor? Of course, I bet hubby knows a really good/durable floor paint that won't wear or scratch at all too so maybe that's not a concern.

I bet you are getting sooooooooooo excited now that it's finally coming together, even if, I'm sure you're wishing it was already done. 🙂

  17. Exciting!!!! I remember holding up OSB for my Sir Old Man to screw down when we finished off his shop…..I ached for days after the painting too. But it is going to be wonderful to have such a great space with your own design input. Priceless.
