The big craze lately seems to be coloring books for adults and of course…..kids. There are tons of books everywhere and you can also do a search for free coloring pages for adults and find tons of free things. I happened to be at Joanns the other day and I always check out the clearance section. I found this interesting DIY home decor roll of floral on washi tape. The roll was 12 inches x 10 fee long and I thought my granddaughters would have fun with it while I watched them this week.
I picked up a couple packs of cheap washable markers but they didn’t seem to color on the plastic very well. I had no idea that the roll was a giant washi tape until I looked online to figure out what I had actually bought. I have all kinds of sharpie pens but I didn’t bring them with me. So we ran to Office Max and picked up a big pack of them. I also picked up a plastic table cloth from the dollar store to protect the table.
Yesterday the girls got out of school early and worked on them and even had a couple friends come over. Thankfully I had cut five 12 x 12 inches sections so there was plenty for everyone. My youngest granddaughter loves to color and really kept working on hers.
I even colored one………….we all found out it took a lot longer than we thought it would. The girls would take breaks and go outside and play and then…..back in to color.
My youngest granddaughter really kept with it and finished last night. The background is actually semi-transparent and you carefully remove the backing and have a giant washi tape piece which is supposed to be safe to put on walls. My daughter gave us the okay to put them up in their bedroom. This wall is a pink and you can see it through the piece.
Here was my other granddaughter this morning……all ready for school with a few extra minutes to spend coloring. She can’t wait to come home from school today and finish it.
Of course I had to make one too. I used mine to cover a new journal pad. I had to cover the back which was a light brown as the front had writing on it that would have shown through. I also picked up a new book for myself called Art Journal Courage by Dina Wakley.
