Farm Girl Vintage Tour

It is Friday which means another day on the Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along! My name is Connie Kresin Campbell and I am a designer, long time quilter and the one who keeps Freemotion by the River going. I have made Lori Holt’s barn quilt and also have her book Quilty Fun so I was very excited to take part in this Sew Along.
Fat Quarter Shop sent me a copy of Farm Girl Vintage. The book is spiral bound which is makes it very easy to keep a page open while working on a block and it has 45 different blocks in it. The patterns are in two different sizes…..six inch and twelve inch. You will find all kinds of ideas for quilts, runners and small projects!
I decided to work with the six inch blocks. The directions are very clear and I really like all the color photos. Last week I showed you some of the blocks I had made last year using Lori Holt’s Bake Sale fabrics. I don’t have enough of the fabrics to make all of the blocks in the book so…….
I also made a couple postage stamp blocks (page 57)…….
and I plan on making a wall hanging that incorporates blocks from both books.
Once I had that all figured out I decided I wanted to make another Butter Churn block using batiks. This is block five in the book.
I am an ambassador for Island Batiks and I thought it would be fun to make all of the blocks in the book out of batiks! Of course that meant I had to go back to the beginning of the book and make the blocks that have already been shown…..thank goodness this Sew Along just got started!
The first block was Apron Strings…..I wish I had added a little bit of a cream background….I might have to make another one.
Next up is the Autumn Star block.
Third block is the Baby Chick block……this is so darn cute!!
The fourth block is the Baking Day block…..opps…..I missed a couple threads.
The neat thing about the six inch blocks is that they are great for using up scraps. I try and cut up my scraps as soon as I finish a projects. Here you can see my box of 2 ½” squares and also 1 ½” squares. I plan on making two new blocks a week…..want to join me???

Connie your blocks are sew cute out of vintage style fabrics and then making the same blocks out of gorgeous Island Batiks really shows how versatile these blocks can be. Vintage and fun or fresh and modern…Creative Bliss.
Love your idea of sewing the Farm Girl quilt in batiks Connie and the blocks of both varieties look great! I especially love that little chick. Can't wait to see how your quilts finish up!
Everything is so cute!! The six inchers are just so fun to make!!
I'm in love with the baby chick block done in batiks. I just got my book yesterday and have just begun to look at the different blocks. So far the baby chick block is my favorite.
I'm just about convinced I need these books after seeing all the cute blocks made up specially your batiks Connie, so refreshing!
