Sometimes you just have to know when to say this just isn’t working. Like many of you I have been working on Bonnie Hunter’s Grand Illusion mystery quilt. I think I have made 4 or 5 of her mystery quilts and love them……….this one……not so much. Part of it is the colors I used from my stash…..kind of bland.
I normally like busy designs but this is just a little too busy and I don’t care for the way the pieces in the sash line up with the blocks. After putting 9 sections together I decided it just wasn’t my kind of quilt so I stopped at that size.
I have 16 blocks made up to this point and……I back-stitched the rows so I’m not going to rip them out. I’ll just put all the pieces and the partial quilt into a box and let it age a little. I have been known to do that and then make the quilt and love it! I still had a lot of fun doing the mystery quilt along.
Last week I showed you some neutral strings blocks I made from my scraps. If you have never made string blocks I have a tutorial here. I finished up another pile of string blocks but these are made from Island Batik batiks for a quilt I’ll be making for Spring Market. I just love the colors!
