Batik Pillow in the snow
This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share a commission.I am using some of the same fabrics that I used on the pillow I made from the Quick Strip Paper-Piecing class, which reminds me that I need to go back and watch more lessons.
I actually pieced this a while ago using some of the batik scraps I bought at the Calico Hutch in Minnesota in 2013. Where does the time go????? That post is here and you buy packages of fabric by the pound. I used my Sizzix Big Shot and a die called Flourish #2. Instead of throwing away the outside part of the cut I just used a rotary cutter with a wave blade to trim it up so I could use it for another project.
I wanted to make a quick and easy project that I could show you as I have other things I’m working on that I can’t share. I decided to try 2 layers of Warm & Natural to give a little bit more loft to the pillow top.
Here is the backside of the pillow, I used premium muslin as a liner.
I was a little short on fabric for the back of the pillow. I had several small pieces left that I could put together. I was still a little short but had a piece that was similar. I was able to put it on the inside flap and you can’t even see it on the finished pillow.
The batiks are kind of a grey blue color and I made the extra piece into a little mug rug.
It is freezing here in Iowa! We got 7 inches of snow yesterday and schools are closed today because of the cold, sounds like they will be closed tomorrow also. Keep warm!
How gorgeous! I love this mix of fabric, Connie. Your projects have a peaceful feeling that goes so well with a snowy landscape. Perfect for the weather we have here along the St. Lawrence River. 😉
What absolutely beautiful quilting you do. I especially love the pillows. Thank you for sharing with the Clever Chicks Blog Hop! I hope you’ll join us again next week!

Very pretty!
Absolutely gorgeous I truly love them!!!!!!!!
Beautiful pillow and I love that center. I also think I'll try doubling my batting for my next pillow – good idea.
Stay warm! I'm actually sitting in an airport today waiting to board a flight home and guessing that I won't make it all of the way there tonight since the weather is horrible in South Dakota today. Oh well . . . I do have handwork with me.
Your quilting is gorgeous! We have not got any real snow yet, but when we do school will be closed because our Christian school will be one of the last parking lots plowed!
Beautiful mug rugs and pillows.
Both your cushions are so pretty, Connie! Love that motif in the center square. Adds such flare! We are having the same weather here. Oh, well…. It's fun to be sewing while it's snowing!
Lovely batik pillows and perfect for the cold snowy temperatures you are experiencing. I pray you stay safe and warm.
These are beautiful. I love the colors.

These projects are all so gorgeous! I love the matching mug rug and the way you used the scrap from the Sizzix cut. As Kat said, these are exquisite!
