Did you see my post on Wednesday where I reviewed Remarkable Rectangles by Robert DeCarli? Well…..I kept thinking about his techniques and just had to try one of the patterns.
Sunny South was the one that caught my eye right away so I went shopping in my stash.
I have to admit that I love, love cutting fabric. I cut all the strips
and using Robert’s easy directions I pieced all the strips.
Then I cut them into smaller strips……oh boy…..the pieces are getting small!
I wasn’t sure if I would piece the blocks right away so I put everything in ziploc bags……then I decided…why not put the blocks together right now!
I should have realized right away that I picked the smallest quilt in the book……with small pieces! I have never enjoyed doing miniature work…..makes me a nervous wreck and I envy people who do it.
Many of the strips were cut 3/4 of a inch or 1 inch.
After I made 8 blocks I decided that was enough for me and I really, really would like a table runner with this design……yes, there are 8 blocks in this runner!
Now if I had read a little more carefully I would have seen that the original wall hanging finished at 24 1/2 x 24 1/2 and the blocks are only 5 inches. I picked the tiniest one in the book! Quilting this will be a challenge too!
I had fun making this project and I really like the way the blocks are put together, I’ll definitely try another quilt. My mind is also wondering what would happen if I doubled the size of the strips…..

For some reason our internet went wonky and even though we have 11 days left in the month…..I’m going to run out of our allowance usage so I’m going to have to get up a little earlier and get my posts up. I also will limit my time online during the day……which means……more quilting!
