Sometimes I can’t resist playing with scraps that I should really throw away.
When I made Serenity with the Seasons Greetings fabrics from Island Batik I kept all the little corners that I trimmed off. The other day I pulled out a piece of fusible batting and just laid all the pieces on top of it.
Here you can see all the pieces covering the batting. Many of them are over lapping so I had to be very careful when I took it to my sewing machine and quilted some straight lines.
Doesn’t look too bad after it is all quilted and the best thing….it was a fast project!
I decided to just zig-zag around the edges 2 times instead of putting on binding. This is something I will only put out for the holidays. Are you wondering how it will wash up? Well I am using batiks which don’t fray at bad as regular fabrics but….I didn’t catch every little part. I am not planning on washing it often and will probably hand wash it.
If I did plan on washing it I would have stitched rows in the opposite direction so I would be sure of catching everything. For me, this is fine and the best thing…….I didn’t throw away those scraps of beautiful fabrics!
Now tell me…..do you hate to throw away little scraps too?
I think it will look nice with my Serenity wall hanging.
