Pelly Update

Guess who called me yesterday afternoon!!!!!

No it wasn’t Pelly…….it was the girl (Michelle) who picked up Pelly the other day calling to let me know how he was doing.

He still isn’t using his foot, if it is still that way on Monday they will x-ray it.

Pelly was given several kinds of medicine, some to treat his lice. They were not only on his skin but in his mouth. We had seen them and read about it online and learned it is very common in pelicans. Michelle said they could really see an improvement in him (they are calling Pelly a boy too) as far as the lice.

He is inside, has a heating pad and gets 4 of the blue gill and some of the other fish we sent with him once a day.

He must feel like he is on a diet after the way I was feeding him! He has tried to poke his beak at them and has also been talking to them. I laughed and said he was trying to tell them he wanted more food as that is what he would do to me when hungry.

They already have a pen outside for him to use when his foot is better and I can call next week to see how he is. I am very thankful that they are helping Pelly and I hope they are enjoying him as much as we did.

Pelly Update

I wonder what Pelly would have thought if he had seen all the Canadian geese show up! There were thirty of them……it is difficult now to tell the babies from the parents. Seeing them really made me think of Pelly and miss him. Then a beer truck went by and I was thankful that Pelly was in a safe place and being cared for.

I will miss the Pelly Adventures 🙂

  2. I had been wondering how Pelly was. So glad they are caring for him. I sure hope they figure out what is wrong with his foot. Would be a shame if it was injured so badly that it kept him from returning to the wild. Will look forward to more updates. Hope you had a great outing today.

  7. I wonder once Pelly is better and sent out on his own if you'll see him again each year. I bet he does feel like they have him on a diet. How funny. I'm happy to hear they sound like a great place for him to recover. I hope they can figure out what happened and get him fixed up. That's awesome they called to give a report to you on how he's doing.

Hope you had fun today and won some great prizes.

Lucky Pelly to have human friends to help him. It was fun seeing how you looked after him (with such care and dedication), and the update is great. Hopefully his foot will feel better without intervention. Is the goal to (eventually) re-introduce him to the wild?

  14. I bet that is kind of sad that Pelly has a new home, I bet you miss him tons, hope his foot get well.

  15. Dora, the quilter says:

Amazing how serendipitous events like the arrival of a young pelican can impact our lives, isn't it.
I wish I were going to visit Nolting with you. I so want to own one!

that was nice that they called you with an update! as long as they don't try to give him back to you huh.

  17. I was thinking about Pelly this morning so was happy to see your headline and that he is doing so well. How nice of Michelle to call and give you an update. I am sure everyone there is enjoying Pelly. I wouldn't think that people who don't enjoy animals would want to work there. Have fun at your outing today.
