Daisy May Sunflower Pillow

I think all of us enjoy making gifts, of course sometimes I have a hard time waiting until Christmas to give them to someone. I’m not sure who will get this pillow and for right now I decided to call it the Daisy May Sunflower pillow as it is so bright and summery looking.

I bought a new accuquilt die at Christmas time and this is the first thing I cut with it. There wasn’t as much contrast between the petals as I wanted so I had to add some more stitching to it.

Here is the flower with the center pebbled and some lines on the petals. I really like pieced backgrounds.

I decided this will be a pillow, it is about 13 inches square so I used a piece of a old sheet on the back and did some quilting on the large petals with a little darker color. I really wanted to use the color I had done the outlining with but then my stem lines would disappear. Once this was done it really didn’t darken the petals much. I then did some echoing around the flower.

Finished size of the pillow ended up being about 12 inches square so I used an old sheet to make a pillow casing and stuffed it. I bought a couple of pillows from Ikea that were way too plump so I’m using the stuffing which is really nice. I’m strange…..I like flat bed pillows.

Pillows are always so much fun to make.

I used my AccuQuilt Go! and dies for these projects. Last week I showed you the flower I made and turned into a table topper. Be sure to take a look at the flower table topper I also made with this die.

  4. I just love it Connie and it so brings on thoughts of a warm summer, which I would be loving right now instead of the cold and the snow.

  8. I really like your pillow and think making something each month a great idea. I'm going to see if I can combine this monthly goal with the Let's Book It challenge and move some books to new homes and finally make something out of them. Thanks for the inspiration.

I really really like the sunflower pillow. I don't have an accuquilt cutter, but I suppose I could cut it the old fashioned way. Either way, it is just beautiful.

  20. I love your Daisy May Sunflower pillow! I think the colors are fantastic (and the quilting). I like sunflowers and it reminds me of a sunflower block from an old book that I have were the petals have a small pleat at the center giving it a little dimension. I think I will look for it and make a sunflower pillow too!

What a gorgeous pillow, Connie! I can help you with who to give it too! 🙂 I really love that scrappy background and your quilting is the perfect finishing touch. It looks like a very expensive designer pillow. Not that I know what a designer pillow looks like, but yours sure does look classy! Nice job!
