More fabric boxes

Yesterday I was on Facebook and someone showed a link to this great tutorial for Fabric Boxes which reminded me that I had made several of them. In fact they were so much fun I bought a whole bunch of pretty buttons and……….got busy with other things and forgot about them.

I pulled them out and took some pictures. I have the link below to the tutorial for the boxes but I just wanted to show you how I made mine a little different. You can make the boxes any size. I still want to make a BIG one. The quilting really adds body to it.

My original post with the fabric sizes.

I wanted to get rid of the folded inside piece so I did a French seam.

On this one the in-cased seam is on the outside.

You have a nice finished inside to the box.

These were the first ones I made (old, old fabrics) and I did experiment with the sizes. I didn’t do much quilting on them and they aren’t very sturdy.

Notice the folded corners……that is what I decided to change.

Tina at Seaside Stitches has an excellent tutorial so be sure and check it out! What a great gift idea!

Note: I did a new post where I show how I  did the french seams – you can find it here.

We had some rain last night which turned to ice and snow is coming. I was supposed to go to my grand-daughters school concert but I’m staying home……I just don’t care for driving in bad weather.

Love your boxes might try one when I have time. We had terrible ice storms up here to and Toronto has over 300'000 homes without power right now and may not get it before Xmas. I can't believe the terrible storms we have had all over the world this year..
    Merry Christmas to all.

Like Connie, I can't picture how to do the finished seam either. Could you give a little more description of steps to do it? Thank you! and Merry Christmas!

Great idea! The box itself is so cute, but you could use it as a gift basket and that would be FABULOUS.

Perfect. I was just thinking this morning that I need to make a little something for my girlfriend and this might just be it! I'll tuck her Tim Horton's gift card in it πŸ™‚

Cute boxes! Thanks for sharing. I like your clean look on the inside with no folds or edges. I do need some more catchall containers here and there in my sewing room do this looks like the project I've unknowingly been waiting for.
Sounds like you might have a white Christmas. Sure do hope it's merry and bright, too! πŸ™‚

I made several of these last spring when Tina posted her tutorial, so cute and easy. How did you do your seams, I can't picture it in my mind.

I like the box with the seam on the outside. It looks really sturdy. I'm sorry you missed the concert, but I'm like you…I don't drive in ice and snow either. Happy Christmas!

They are very pretty boxes and so versatile, just what I'm looking for as a quick make to put some small items in. A good decision not to drive in snowy conditions. I used to when I was younger but not any more.

I did a french seam Teri, sew the seam first on the RIGHT side and then encase it when you sew the seam again on the WRONG side.

Connie, I can't quite wrap my head around your directions. Did you sew the corners as directed and then end up cutting away some of the fabric in doing this french seam? I just made one tonight and thought I was doing the right thing but I didn't get vertical sides. My sides are slanted in. It sure is a cute shape, but not how yours turned out. Wish I had a camera to send you a picture.
