Yesterday this beautiful boat was coming up the Mississippi River. It is always a thrill to see riverboats and this one is called the Kanesville Queen.
Unfortunately the riverboat wasn’t running…..it was being pushed by 2 tows as it makes it’s final destination to Newt Marine in Dubuque, Iowa. I checked online and it looks like the riverboat stopped in Jefferson City and a demolition crews stripped it. What a shame. It was the Harrah’s casino in Council Bluff, Iowa since 2001 but now there will be a new landlocked casino.
I really miss the days when we would see several huge riverboats go by in a week. We seem to see more and more riverboats going by for the last time on their way to the scrapyard.
The Kanesville Queen was built in Jacksonville, Florida and sailed up the Mississippi and Missouri rivers to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1995. In 2001 it was bought by Harrahs. The Kanesville Queen is 290-feet long, 90-feet wide, and 50-feet tall.
I snapped this photo about an hour ago…..it is early and not much light but you can see a tow with barges going by. New quilt on the frame and more on it tomorrow! I think we are going to a movie today….matinee and lots of popcorn!
