Broken Herringbone Quilt Block

Broken Herringbone Quilt Block
Here is a red table runnerthat I finished up after realizing my blocks for the Molli Sparkles Broken Herringbone QAL were never going to get finished…I didn’t need another UFO so I used the blue blocks for a table runner and a couple of other quilt projects.
Table runners are a perfect way to use up blocks and wouldn’t this make a perfect gift!
I really love the colors in this…..red is a favorite of mine. I also made the Mini Broken Herringbone mug rug. It is so cute!
I used lots of beautiful batiks, some of them came from Connecting Threads, The Fat Quarter Shop, and some from quilt shops I have visited. The top batik with the label on it just came from a shop that I visited when we went to see Builder Bob’s mom in Minnesota.
I really had fun making this beautiful broken herringbone quilt block and wouldn’t it be neat to make a quilt with each block a different color!
This blue table runner was the first one I made using the blocks. Do you like the way I joined the blocks together?
Here is a closeup of the free motion quilting that I did on the table runner. I decided to just quilt on the blue batiks and leave the cream strips with no quilting. I used my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine for my piecing and quilting.
For this table runner, I added my binding to the back and then folded it over the front and sewed it down by machine using my machine binding tutorial. Have you ever sewed your binding on this way?
I have a few more blue blocks left and some scraps that I wasn’t going to throw away. Take a look at what I did with the leftovers.

Connie, you work SO much with batiks (my FIRST love!) – do you have a favorite vendor ?

Love the Molli Sparkles broken herringbone but I resisted and hopefully will make it someday. I just did not need another UFO cluttering up my space.
