Texas Teardrop Pillow

When I first cut out the applique pieces for my Texas Teardrops QAL I used the small sample template that Vicki had in the pattern and made a few teardrops in these green batiks.

The background is also a batik and I didn’t trim these blocks like Vicki does so I had a little more space to fill with quilting. I did a little wonky echo quilting around each teardrop.

Here is a closeup of the quilting. All the photos show my pillow after I have washed and dried it. You can see that there is virtually no fraying on the teardrops. The pillow is about 20 x 20.

Last week I showed my Texas Teardrops quilt before I washed it. This is the quilt AFTER washing and drying.

I had to laugh when I saw this……I actually had 2 different places that I forgot to stitch around the applique. Thankfully batiks don’t fray much. I just stitched it up right after I took this photo.

I think I may still add a little more quilting to this. Some of the teardrop pieces need a little something else. I don’t really care for the crinkle look.

Last month we had a Jo-Ann Fabric store open in our town and I used one of my 50% off coupons to buy some Breezy Color Absorber. It was normally $6.99 for 30 sheets which is still a good buy. I am glad I used it because it looks like one….or two of the fabrics might have bled a little, the sheet has quite a bit of purple on it. My quilt…….looks perfect!

Yesterday we decided to do a little road trip and I am typing this from our motel room in Prairie du Chien, WI. We just took our time driving and relaxing. We had a fantastic dinner last night at Jones’ Black Angus……..great steaks!  We are going to drive a little further into Wisconsin and stay here again tonight. Then tomorrow we will head home.

  1. I am in love with the colors of your pillow! And your Tear Drop quilt is so pretty, too. Thanks for the tip on the color catchers from JoAnns. I am a lover of batiks, too, and I know they can run sometimes.

  2. Totally LOVE your TD pillow. Especially the echo quilting. It's wonderful!

You sassy lil' quilter! That pillow is so awesome! It looks like something out of a magazine for a chic store! Congrats!

  4. Love your pillow Connie and if it's ever short of a home it can come stay with me. Aren't those sheets amazing at stopping any colour bleed.

  5. I was wondering what you would make with the small teardrops. Looks nice! And when I ever get to my quilt I will be more mindful of completing all the stitching so I don't have the problem you had. I think I would cry, but you took it in stride! Thanks too for the tip on color catchers. Also, you've given me some impetus to complete a quilt, knowing that I can always go back and add some quilting even after it's all put together. Being new to quilting, I never gave that a consideration!

  6. Love the added pillow, I really wish I had gotten by bum in gear and worked on my Texas Teardrops Quilt, I am just drooling over all of the finished ones.

  7. love your teardrops. mini vacations are great. glad you are having a good time.

  11. Love the pillow Connie! It turned out great! And the quilt looks awesome too. I didn't quilt much on my teardrops for the first quilt but I think I'm going to quilt the second different. Maybe do more quilting on the teardrops.
