The other morning we decided to jump in the car and take a ride along the river to see the changing leaves. We took along a overnight bag just in case.
You would think that since we live right along the Mississippi River we would get tired of looking at it but we don’t. We followed the Great River Road all the way up to Lansing, Iowa and then stayed the night in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. We ate at a fantastic supper club called The Angus, great steak and shrimp.
In the morning we followed the Great River Road down through Illinois until we came to Fulton where I stopped at one of my favorite quilt stores – Susan’s Calico Creations.
Isn’t this tree beautiful! I saw it in the park in Clinton, Iowa and had to get out and take a picture. What better to take a photo of…..my goodies. Lesson learned……don’t organize your fabric and quilt room before you have a chance to go visit some quilt stores. I just couldn’t justify much buying so I only bought 1 fat quarter of batik (only because I HAD to buy fabric) and some Golden Threads paper I have been wanting to buy.
Another beautiful tree in Clinton, the further north we got…….we had missed the leaves changing…they were already on the ground.
Just having fun showing my quilt purchases on the leaves.
The Sumac looks so neat growing on the stone cliffs.
I love seeing Sumac, the colors are just beautiful.
We had a great lunch in Savanna, IL then we went to Clinton, Iowa to take a walk along the river and try and burn up some calories so we could go to Rastrelli’s for Builder Bob’s favorite pizza. This restaurant has been open since 1939. Builder Bob grew up here and…..on this pizza. Does it sound like all we did was eat???? We did!
This neat bike path is all along the river front in Clinton and this is actually out on a island. We could have walked it all the way to Rastrellis……but we wouldn’t have had to energy to walk back….so we drove.
I have lots of emails to answer, blogs to read and some quilting to do……until the next little getaway.
